I am pleased to see that Sir Menzies Campbell has been chosen as the new leader of the Liberal Democrats.

I personally feel that he is the right person for the job.

During the leadership election campaign he proved himself to be a leader, leading from the rear for some time, taking up the mantle of office when necessary and fitting into the role very well.

Despite his relative maturity I feel that he has the ability to raise the profile of the Liberal Democrats and to take them forward into a true battle for government of the country.

I also think he will regain some public support for the party and show it to be a true threat to Labour's majority.

I could not vote Lib Dem in the last election as I felt the leadership of the party was ineffective.

But with Menzies Campbell at the head of the party I think that Labour will have to work harder to keep voters like me on side.

There will be many people now convinced, as I am, that the Liberal Democrat party is entering a new stronger phase.

It may even prove itself to be capable of running the country in future elections.
