The stamps go on sale this week
A set of stamps is being produced by the Royal Mail to celebrate London winning the 2012 Olympic Games.

Six stamps, depicting events such as swimming and diving, will go on sale on Friday to coincide with the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki.

London 2012 chairman and former Olympic winner Sebastian Coe said: "This is a celebratory gesture to be proud of."

Royal Mail produced special stamps to mark the 2002 football World Cup and England's 2003 Rugby World Cup triumph.

A set was also produced before the Manchester Commonwealth Games to celebrate the city's success.

Lord Coe said: "These special London 2012 stamps will keep this wonderful achievement at the forefront of people's minds over the next few months.

"By backing the successful London bid, the people of the UK have helped London win the most exciting sporting prize ever."

The collection will be available for the next two years.
