21 July attacks: Arrests and charges
The hunt for the would-be bombers who attempted to attack London on 21 July has been the Metropolitan Police's largest ever operation.

Some 43 people have been detained under the Terrorism Act in the UK - 17 have been charged.

One of the five main attempted bomb suspects, Hussain Osman, was charged after being arrested in Italy and then extradited to the UK.

Here are the details of the UK arrests and charges:

CHARGED

  • Hussain Osman, 27, charged with conspiracy to murder London Transport passengers, possessing an explosive substance and attempting to murder passengers. An Old Bailey judge set a provisional trial date of September 2006.

  • Ibrahim Muktar Said, 27, of Stoke Newington, London, charged with conspiracy to murder London Transport passengers, possessing an explosive substance and attempting to murder passengers. Due to face trial in September 2006.

  • Ramzi Mohamed, 24, of North Kensington, London, charged with conspiracy to murder London Transport passengers, possessing an explosive substance and attempting to murder passengers. Due to face trial in September 2006.

  • Yassin Hassan Omar, 24, of New Southgate, London, charged with conspiracy to murder London Transport passengers, possessing an explosive substance and attempting to murder passengers. Due to face trial in September 2006.

  • Manfo Kwaku Asiedu, 32, of Finsbury Park, London, charged with conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause explosions likely to endanger life or cause serious injury. Due to face trial in September 2006.

  • Adel Yahya, 23, of Tottenham, north London, charged with conspiracy to cause explosions. He was arrested on 20 December at Gatwick Airport after he arrived back from Ethiopia. He is due to appear at the Old Bailey on 6 January.

  • Siraj Yassin Abdullah Ali, 30, of New Southgate, London, charged with failing to disclose information that may help police investigating an act of terrorism. Also charged with assisting a suspect evade arrest. An Old Bailey judge said a trial was not expected before January 2007.

  • Wharbi Mohammed, 23, of Notting Hill, London, charged with failing to disclose information that may help police investigating an act of terrorism. Also charged with assisting a suspect in evading arrest. Trial not expected until 2007.

  • Asias Girma, 20, of Stockwell, London, charged with assisting a person or persons in evading arrest. Also charged with failing to disclose information that may help police investigating an act of terrorism. Trial not expected until 2007.

  • Ismael Abdurahman, 23, of Kennington, London, charged with failing to disclose information that may help police investigating an act of terrorism. Also charged with helping suspects to evade arrest. Trial not expected until 2007.

  • Shadi Sami Abdel Gadir, 23, of Brighton, charged with failing to disclose information that may help police investigating an act of terrorism. Also charged with helping a suspect to evade arrest. Trial not expected until 2007.

  • Omar Nagmeloin Almagboul, 20, of Brighton, charged with failing to disclose information that may help police investigating an act of terrorism. Further charged with helping a suspect evade arrest. Trial not expected until 2007.

  • Abdul Sharif, 28, of Stockwell, London, charged with failing to disclose information that may help police investigating an act of terrorism. Also charged with helping a suspect evade arrest. Trial not expected until 2007.

  • Mohamed Kabashi, 23, of no fixed abode, charged with failing to disclose information that may help police investigating an act of terrorism. Also charged with helping a suspect evade arrest. Trial not expected until 2007.

  • Yeshiemebet Girma, 29, of Stockwell, London - wife of bomb suspect Hussain Osman - charged with failing to disclose information that may help police investigating an act of terrorism. Also charged with helping a suspect to evade arrest. Trial not expected until 2007.

  • Mulumebet Girma, 21, of Stockwell, London - sister of Yeshiemebet Girma - charged with failing to disclose information that may help police investigating an act of terrorism. Also charged with helping a suspect to evade arrest. Trial not expected until 2007.

  • Muhedin Ali, 27, from west London, charged with having information which could have led to the prosecution of Hussain Osman. Also charged with knowing or believing that Hussain Osman had committed attempted murder, conspiracy to murder and other offences.

HELD UNDER TERRORISM ACT - NOW RELEASED

  • A man known as D, arrested in New Southgate, London, on 24 July. He was later dearrested under the Terrorism Act and was rearrested on 6 August under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act on suspicion of withholding information and assisting an offender.

    He was bailed to return to a police station pending further enquiries.

  • Three men and a woman arrested in Brighton on 31 July. Released without charge.

  • Two women briefly arrested on the main concourse at Liverpool Street rail station on 29 July. Released without charge.

  • Nine people arrested at two addresses in Tooting, south London, on 28 July. Eight released without charge. One was dearrested under the Terrorism Act but is now being held for alleged immigration offences.

  • Three men arrested in Washwood Heath, Birmingham, on 27 July. Released without charge.

  • A woman known as A1, arrested in Stockwell on suspicion of harbouring offenders on 27 July. Released without charge.

  • A man known as C arrested in Tulse Hill, south London, on 23 July. Released without charge.

  • A man known as A and a man known as B both arrested in Stockwell, south London, on 22 July. Released without charge.

  • A man known as M1 arrested in Finchley, north London, on 2 August. Released without charge.

  • A woman known as N1 arrested at an address in Stockwell on 3 August. Released without charge.
