Doughnut-shaped peaches hit shops

The peaches were first grown in China in the 19th Century

Peaches which resemble doughnuts are to go on sale in shops across the UK.

The fruit, which grows in Spain and is thought to produce less juice, is known elsewhere as Paraguayos, Saturn Peaches or Chinese Flat Peaches.

But here the fruit will be called the Donut Peach and packaged in long boxes to increase the resemblance.

Tesco, which will sell the fruit for six weeks, said: "We think kids will love them as they get the fun of a doughnut in a healthy snack."

Charles Clowes, the supermarket chain's peach buyer, added: "These peaches look so deceiving that if you presented them on a cake tray most people would mistake them for doughnuts."

This type of peach was first grown in China during the 19th Century.
