Papers hail fighting Galloway
The newspapers all agree that George Galloway - in the words of the Express - came out all guns blazing when he faced his accusers in the US Senate.

It was a powerful performance, the Times says, while the Telegraph describes an assault on Capitol Hill.

The Financial Times acknowledges blistering testimony, while the Guardian lauds street fighting form.

The Sun admits a barnstorming performance, while the Daily Record says the MP "spanked the Yanks".

Kylie's cancer

The announcement that Australian pop star Kylie Minogue has breast cancer elicits much sympathy from the papers.

The diagnosis is the one that all women dread, the Mail says. The paper says she had become concerned about a lump during her tour of Britain and Europe.

But she only had time to visit the doctor after she returned to Melbourne.

The Mirror says the singer's chances are good because of early diagnosis. But it says chemotherapy and hormone treatment can cause infertility.

Blair's legacy

Many of the papers see the measures outlined in the Queen's Speech as an attempt by Tony Blair to secure his legacy before he leaves Downing Street.

According to the Times, the theme weaving together the bills was Mr Blair's desire to leave a lasting mark.

The Guardian says the prime minister knows he has one certain chance - this 18-month parliamentary session - to entrench a "reform and respect" agenda.

But the Mail says it is a pity Mr Blair did not push through reform earlier.

Guns for doctors

The Telegraph reports that doctors in Iraq are to be armed with rifles under a government directive.

The move is aimed at stopping a spate of attacks from criminals masquerading as patients.

At least 25 doctors have been murdered and a further 300 kidnapped over the past two years.

The paper says doctors are prime targets because medicines and surgery equipment can be re-sold on the black market, and they can afford ransoms.
