Frank Gardner - The Real Story

BBC Security Correspondent Frank Gardner's full time job is to report the war on terror.

But last June he became one of its victims. While on assignment in Saudi Arabia, he and his cameraman, Simon Cumbers, were attacked by gunmen.

Simon was killed but Frank - despite being hit by six bullets - survived.

As he returns to work for the BBC, Fiona Bruce speaks to Frank about that day, the doctors who battled to save his life and the legacy of his traumatic experience.

Real Story: BBC ONE, Tuesday 19 April, 2005 at 2315 BST. The programme will be repeated at 1930 BST on BBC ONE on Bank Holiday Monday, 2 May.

This Real Story has been moved from its usual time to make way for the first of three party leader interviews ahead of the General Election.
