UK voters' panel: Michael Dommett

MEET THE PANEL

In 10 words or less:
"Folk dancing civil engineer, loves exploring, history and reading"

I think the defeat serves Tony Blair right.

We don't need 90 days detention.

Australia, Spain and America don't need more than 14 days.

If the police need time to deal with documents, they should hire more civilians to do the paperwork.

I think there was an element of being seen to be tough in all of this.

However, the Conservatives would do the same if the positions were reversed.

If Tony Blair continues to force things through Parliament without discussing them with people first, he will meet with more defeats and, yes, his authority will diminish.

Because Labour MPs know he is going to resign at some point, they will be trying to ingratiate themselves with his likely replacements - that's human nature.

UK VOTERS' PANEL
Of course he shouldn't resign. That's part of the macho version of politics where one side always has to win.

He's made the rod for his own back by backing George W Bush's actions, and he got hung out to dry as George Bush didn't deliver what he'd promised Mr Blair.

In the process, Mr Blair has made us less safe.
