So Mr Blair lost his Commons vote. I was both surprised and pleased.

Ninety days is far too long. Consider how much the police uncovered in a few weeks after the 7 July bombings in London, without knowing who they were investigating.

If they really need 90 days to bring enough evidence to charge terror suspects then we have to question their competence.

Also, consider the prospect of you, not some anonymous person, but you, being held for up to 90 days.

This is another attempt at eroding the foundations of being British. It was another cynical attempt by Mr Blair to appear big and strong, using fear to browbeat the public for political gain.

Despite his denials, Mr Blair put all his authority into getting this bill passed.

UK VOTERS' PANEL
He has used this tactic many times before, but this time the Labour MPs have seen through his charade and know him for what he is.

Detention for 90 days is excessive and undermines the very way of life he purports to defend. Worse still, it effectively hands al-Qaeda victory on a plate, due the discontent it would cause among certain sections of our society.

Mr Blair lost my respect a very long time ago. Yesterday he lost that of many others.

He is a coward and a traitor and makes me ashamed to be British.

Should he resign? Definitely!

Will he resign? Maybe he will ask Messrs Byers, Mandelson and Blunkett what his next move should be.
