Trafalgar Weekend events
Thousands of people throughout the UK are expected to be involved in this month's Battle of Trafalgar bicentenary celebrations over the anniversary weekend.

As well as a host of formal activities, chiefly in London and Lord Nelson's home port of Portsmouth, there will be thousands of small-scale and private events, ranging from celebratory breakfasts to parades, concerts and fireworks spectaculars.

OCTOBER

21 - Breakfasts, lunches, dinners and parties being held across the country.

1100 - Wreath-laying ceremony at Nelson Crypt, St Paul's Cathedral.

1845 - First of nationwide beacons lit by the Queen beside HMS Victory at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

Four more "principal" becons being lit in quick succession at locations elsewhere in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

1915 - Hundreds more beacons lit around the UK, heralding a series of Trafalgar night parties.

1930 - Nelson Anniversary Concert, Portsmouth Cathedral.

22 - (1500 and 1930) Nelson's Night, a musical celebration of the battle and the sea, Royal Albert Hall in London.

23 - The nation remembers Nelson in a series of church and cathedral services around the country.

1100 - Sea Cadets' parade, Trafalgar Square.

1500 - National service of commemoration, St Paul's Cathedral.

1830 - Spirit of Nelson, parade and spectacular, celebrating Britain's maritime culture, Trafalgar Square.

1900 - Church bells to peal throughout the UK to commemorate those who died in maritime conflict.
