Man dumps daughter with police

Wayne Jackson runs a charity shop in Leeds

A charity worker has dumped his 18-month-old daughter at a police station saying he was off on holiday and could not look after her.

Wayne Jackson, 35, left Chloe with officers at Holbeck police station in Leeds before going to Spain with his wife and two other children.

The BBC's Richard Wells: "The man is still on holiday"
He walked into the station at 1900BST on Saturday, put the toddler on the counter, gave police her grandmother's phone number and walked out, saying he was going on holiday - omitting to reveal he was the girl's father.

Mr Jackson, of Halton, Leeds, had been babysitting Chloe, his daughter with previous partner Gayle Atha, 24, while her mother worked at a hairdressers.

Ms Atha's mother had just had an operation, so she asked Mr Jackson to look after the child instead.

Reunited with grandmother

"I can't believe he would dump her at a police station. He was unreliable but at the end of the day I thought he loved Chloe," Ms Atha told the Yorkshire Post.

The childs grandmother was horrified
Police are considering what action to take against Mr Jackson, who runs Majestic Charity Care in Meanwood, Leeds.

A police spokesman said: "We can confirm that a 35-year-old man left his baby daughter with officers at Holbeck police station, saying he was going on holiday.

"She was reunited with her grandmother within an hour and is fit and well.

"Social services have been informed of the situation and we are now looking into the circumstances of this incident."
