Comedian Jasper Carrott, whose wife has donated a kidney to save his daughter's life

Comedian Jasper Carrott's wife has saved their daughter's life by donating one of her kidneys.

Lucy Davis, 24, a radio soap actress, is set to make a full recovery after receiving a kidney from her mother, Hazel, at Birmingham's University Hospital.

She was given the organ in a simultaneous operation on both women involving two surgeons.

Ms Davis plays Hayley in BBC Radio 4's long-running soap The Archers, and has also appeared on television in the hospital drama Casualty.

Her father first found fame in the late 1970s with his own form of stand-up comedy and became a household name in Britain with his own series.

The Brummie comic's most recent success is the police spoof The Detectives, in which he co-stars with Robert Powell.

A statement released by the hospital read: "University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust has performed a living-related kidney transplant on the wife and daughter of Jasper Carrott.

"The operation, which took place at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on December 15 was from mother to daughter and both women are recovering well."

In an uncharacteristically straight-faced statement Carrott, who lives in Solihull, West Midlands, said: "This is a very private family affair.

"The family is very happy and I hope that with the new code of conduct for journalists the press will be sympathetic to our situation and will allow my wife and daughter to recuperate in private."

A hospital spokesman described the operation as a "success" and said the two women could be released from hospital within the next few days.
