Two Britons have appeared in court after a British teenager was allegedly raped in a bar in Tenerife.

The 18-year-old woman says she was attacked on Monday in a hostess bar in the resort of Playa de Las Americas.

The victim's brother tried to intervene but is said to have been kept outside by the alleged attacker's accomplice.

The girl required hospital treatment and went to police after her release. The Foreign Office confirmed two Britons appeared in court on Wednesday.

"I can confirm that a British national was allegedly raped in Tenerife on 15 August.

"Next of kin are aware, consular staff stand ready to offer assistance.

"Two British nationals were arrested in connection with the incident. They appeared in court yesterday.

"Both have been released. However, one of the accused must sign on at the court twice a month, and police are still investigating."
