Thousands of admirers gathered outside the Queen Mother's official London residence, Clarence House, to wish her a happy 99th birthday.

She emerged to loud cheers and a serenade from the Welsh Guards who marched past playing "Happy Birthday".

Terry Hutt from Essex was among fans who had queued for days to get the best view.

All kinds of Royal gifts were on display.

A uniformed chauffeur ferried the Queen Mother along The Mall in a golf buggy so that she could meet more of her admirers.

Jennifer Hawkins from Worthing had waited four nights to wish the Queen Mother many happy returns.

Hundreds of children waited excitedly to hand over their bouquets.

Thomas Lincoln, 6, Emma Lincoln, 8, and Aida Seyun, 8, all brought baskets of flowers for the Queen Mother.

The nation's favourite Royal looked relaxed and happy as she chatted with people in the crowd and accepted birthday gifts from well-wishers.

The Queen Mother with her grandson Prince Charles and great-grandchildren Prince William, 17 and Prince Harry, 15. Teenage girls in the 4,000 strong crowd screamed as the handsome young princes appeared
