A Crown Prosecution Service caseworker has appeared before magistrates charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Maharbaan Land, 26, based in Stratford, is accused of passing on the names and numbers of witnesses to help his co-accused fabricate a defence.

He was bailed to appear at Middlesex Crown Court on 15 December.

Co-accused Imran Khaliq, of Forest Gate, was remanded in custody to appear at the same court on the same date.

Mr Khaliq, 28, is accused of kidnap, assault and theft, the court heard.

He is also accused of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and aiding and abetting criminal misconduct in public office.

The CPS confirmed that Mr Land had been suspended on full pay pending the outcome of the case against him.
