Four held after heroin seizure

The heroin seized has an estimated street value of £420,000

Four men have been arrested following the seizure of heroin worth £420,000 in the Carntyne area of Glasgow on Tuesday.

The swoop is the latest in a series of successful raids by Strathclyde Police who have vowed to continue their crackdown on the drugs trade.

Last month the force seized over £25m worth of heroin in two separate raids.

In the latest seizure, heroin was recovered when Strathclyde Police officers stopped a car in Old Shettleston Road, Glasgow.

Three men aged 28, 33 and 34 were arrested in connection with the recovery.

Further enquiries led to the arrest of a fourth man, aged 40, at a house in the Parkhead area of Glasgow.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Speaking about the latest recovery, Detective Superintendent Barry Dougall, Strathclyde Police's Drugs Co-ordinator, said it underlined their determination to target people involved the drugs trade.

He continued: "Around £29m worth of drugs have been seized in the Strathclyde Police Force area since the beginning of April 1999.

"There will be no let up in our pursuit of drug dealers who bring misery to our communities."
