New appeal in Dickinson murder

John Dickinson meets Robert Baffert in St Malo

The father of murdered teenager Caroline Dickinson has launched a fresh appeal to find her killer on the third anniversary of her death.

Caroline, 13, was on a school trip to Pleine Fougeres, Brittany, on 18 July 1996, when she was killed in a dormitory.

Her father John, from Bodmin, Cornwall, has gone to St Malo as police follow up what he believes is the best lead yet in the murder hunt.

On Friday he met Robert Baffert, the senior inspector overseeing the investigation.

He is said to have asked a woman how to get to Pleine Fougeres, whether she was afraid to be alone with him and whether she was afraid he would rape her.

"The police are as determined as ever and I am fully satisfied that they are doing everything they can," said Mr Dickinson.

"I still feel that this is the best lead we have ever had and I am appealing to the French public for more sightings. The police are working hard and are confident."
