Ex-judge faces child porn charges

A retired judge has been charged with making indecent photos of a child and possession of indecent photos of children, Hampshire police say.

David Selwood, 69, of Winchester, was charged with 12 counts of making indecent photos of a child in March and April of this year.

He was also charged with possession of indecent photos of children in April.

Mr Selwood, who retired a few days ago, was bailed to appear before Bow Street magistrates on 16 June.

His early retirement for health reasons came after his arrest in April as part of a national paedophile investigation.

Military career

Mr Selwood was the resident judge at Portsmouth Crown Court and had been due to retire on 27 June when he turned 70.

He had been a circuit judge since 1992 after a career in the army's legal department.

His military career dates back to 1957 when he was a second lieutenant on National Service, according to Who's Who.

Mr Selwood joined the Territorial Army while working in private legal practice in Plymouth after training as a solicitor.

He held legal posts in the military in Germany and Cyprus before serving as Director of Army Legal Services in the Ministry of Defence in London from 1990 to 1992.
