Saturday, June 5, 1999 Published at 16:05 GMT 17:05 UK UK Pizza order tops the lot ![]() Nearly 400 pizzas, and more than 80kg of cheese A pizza store had to bring in extra workers after an order came in for a £6,000 takeaway. Staff at the store were amazed when they got a request for 399 extra large pizzas. The pizzas are believed to have been ordered by a firm in Leicester for staff working on Saturday. Six extra workers had to be brought in to the branch of Domino's Pizza, Leicester, to cope with the jumbo order. Branch manager Mark Cowan had to order in an extra £1,000 of ingredients. Lot of bottle The store used 84kg of mozzarella cheese, 8kg of ham, 4kg of chicken, six catering size tins of sweetcorn, 18 tins of tomato sauce, 60 trays of dough and 660 portions of coleslaw. The diners also ordered 350 bottles of soft drink. Mr Cowan said: "We had a call a couple of weeks ago from a manager from the company who initially wanted pizzas for just 150 people. "Then he decided that he wanted more and then more again, and finally it ended up with 399 pizzas." Deep pan The pizza store manager said the order had taken some dealing with, but the store had managed. He said: "We were obviously happy to take the order but, as you can imagine, I had a lot of organising to do. "Luckily we have a huge oven which can cook 100 pizzas an hour." And it was not the first time the store has had a bumper order. Mr Cowan said: "I have had some big orders in the past, including one for £700 from a local building society. "But this, if you pardon the pun, tops the lot." |
