Wednesday, April 28, 1999 Published at 10:11 GMT 11:11 UK UK TV show pulled after Dando killing ![]() Crimewatch celebrated its 150th edition in January The BBC has postponed an edition of Crimewatch File, due to be screened on Wednesday, following the murder of presenter Jill Dando. Ms Dando, who fronted the crime-busting series with Nick Ross, was shot dead outside her London home on Monday. Programme schedulers have not yet decided what will fill the 2215 BST slot left vacant by the postponement of the programme. A BBC spokesman said: "We felt it wasn't appropriate to show it at the current time." Crimewatch to go ahead Crimewatch File re-visits cases which were solved as a result of the involvement of Crimewatch investigations. It celebrated the broadcast of its 150th programme in January, and has led to the arrest of more than 600 people. One of the possible motives for Jill Dando's murder being looked at by police is that her killer may have had a grudge against the presenter as a result of her work on Crimewatch. Wednesday's Crimewatch File was to have featured the case of Leslie Salter, who preyed on elderly people in Barry, south Wales, in 1996. It was not known whether Miss Dando narrated the postponed show. The next edition of Crimewatch UK will go out as planned on May 18 with Nick Ross as its sole presenter. A decision will be made nearer the time about whether Ms Dando's murder would feature in the programme, said a BBC spokesman. |
