Everything under the dome

The Teletubbies will feature in the Millennium Dome

Viagra, the Teletubbies and a waterless urinal will represent the best of British in the Millennium Dome, it was revealed on Monday.

They are among 201 millennium products, representing great UK creations of the late 20th Century, announced by Trade and Industry Secretary Stephen Byers.

They will form part of an exhibition within the dome designed to encourage and promote the most innovative British products and services from the last five years of this millennium.

The new items bring the total number of millennium products so far selected to 634.

Every product has the chance to be featured in the Dome at Greenwich, south London.

Other items selected on Monday include:

  • Bluebird Electric - a high-speed electric car driven by Don Wales, the grandson of former landspeed world record holder Sir Malcolm Campbell

  • A Farnborough-produced Fireant mine clearance system, which "burns out" landmines without exploding them

  • Ozone - a newly-shaped, more hygienic toothbrush

  • Max Seat - a water ski system for wheelchair users designed by Sedbergh School for Boys in Cumbria

  • Foster & Partner's design for the international passenger terminal at the new Hong Kong airport

"All these products, produced within the last five years of this millennium, show how Britain is preparing for the new millennium in an exceptionally creative and innovative way," said Mr Byers.

Mr Byers said: "Some of the products announced today have earned millions of pounds for UK companies. Others provide solutions to world problems like landmines.

"It is a truly varied list which reflects the talent and innovation in Britain."
