Archbishop-lookalike teddy bear launched
Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury elect, has been described as a "hairy lefty". But even he is not quite as hairy as a new lookalike teddy bear which is about to go on sale.

The Rowan Bear, priced at 120, will be launched this weekend - just in time for members of the Church of England general synod, which starts on Sunday, to order one.

Dr Williams is to be enthroned as Archbishop of Canterbury next Thursday, and the satirical Christian online magazine Ship of Fools is launching the bear to mark the occasion.

Co-editor Stephen Goddard said: "We recommend Prime Minister Tony Blair buys one for comfort because the real thing is unlikely to be quite so cuddly."

Dr Williams joined with the archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor, in doubting the morality of taking military action against Iraq.

The bear, which is 11 inches tall and made from German mohair and silk, is expected to become a collectors' item. It will be exhibited at a bear collectors fair in London this weekend.
