Woman quizzed over Hamilton allegations
Christine and Neil Hamilton
Christine and Neil Hamilton protested their innocence
A woman is still being questioned by Metropolitan Police investigating false allegations of sexual assault against former Tory politician Neil Hamilton and his wife Christine.

Nadine Milroy-Sloan, 28, who was arrested at her Grimsby home, has been detained on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Last year she alleged she had been sexually assaulted by Mr and Mrs Hamilton at a party.

The former Tory politician and his wife were arrested as the allegations were investigated but the case was later dropped.

Ms Milroy-Sloan claimed the Hamiltons had sexually assaulted her in May as she was allegedly raped by a man at a flat in Ilford, Essex.

The Hamiltons strenuously denied the allegations and provided detailed alibis for the time when the assault was said to have taken place.

The couple said there were still questions about the "saga" they wanted answered.

'Unanswered questions'

Mrs Hamilton told the BBC: "If we have to go through another court case because of this, then so be it.

"There are an enormous number of unanswered questions and we want to get to the bottom of exactly what happened and how this fiasco got as far as it did."

Mr Hamilton, who lost a high cost libel case against Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed, conceded that the prospect of another court case was "daunting".

After the couple had been cleared, Mr Hamilton called for a change in the law which allows alleged victims of sexual assault to remain anonymous but not those who are accused.

Anonymity

Ms Milroy-Sloan, a mother of four, waived her right to anonymity and was paid £50,000 for an interview with a Sunday newspaper.

Mr Hamilton later said: "There is now, as the world knows, the opportunity for any gold-digger to come forward and make a set of false allegations against somebody who has a high profile."

When the charges against the Hamiltons were dropped, a lawyer for Ms Milroy-Sloan said it had been a simple case of mistaken identity.

The woman believed to be Ms Milroy-Sloan was arrested at her home at 0730 on Thursday.

She was taken to a police station in a neighbouring county where detectives have 36 hours to question her.
