Weather warning for motorists
Massive storms pounded the UK in October last year
Motorists are being warned to take extra care after a night of heavy rain and winds up to 60mph across much of the UK.
More than an inch of rain in southern England and Wales made driving conditions difficult. A spokesman for AA Roadwatch said: "It's certainly been very tricky on the roads and our advice would be to slow down and take extra care. "There's a lot of surface water and spray, which is making things difficult. "Thankfully there have been no reports of major accidents but the bad weather has caused some delays and queues." Quieter time The Meteorological Office recorded heavy rain overnight and wind at 60mph. BBC Weather forecaster Michael Fish said bad weather would persist through most of the week, abating on Thursday. "It will be quieter for a time around Thursday. "There will be heavy rain from time to time. It is fairly normal weather for this time of year. "Some of the sea crossings [will be affected], otherwise it doesn't normally cause problems." There were no reports of serious flooding overnight and the Environment Agency has no flood warnings in place.
