A number of different groups and individuals joined the demonstration to lend their support. Anjem Choudary, the demonstration organiser and spokesman for Al-Muhajiroun, said that the initial bombs in Kenya and Tanzania were a result of the "many atrocities" that the US had committed in Muslim countries. He said that American claims that the US had pinpointed certain targets sites in Sudan and Afghanistan were wrong. bin Laden 'not in Afghanistan' His organisation had information from exiled Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden - who he claims has not been in Afghanistan for three or four weeks - that "the training camps in Afghanistan weren't the targets of the American bombs".
But he said: "We endorse and applaud the bombing of American bases. "We don't support the killing of innocent civilians but we will support anyone who is engaged in war against America, American bases or American military machinery in Muslim lands." He added that documents had been found in American embassies which are linked with assassination attempts on Muslim leaders and linked with terrorist activities. Even the British have been involved with trying to overthrow the regimes in the Middle East, he said. |
