Leanne police reveal images
Cables
Cables like these were used to bind Leanne's body
Police hunting the killer of Leeds teenager Leanne Tiernan have released photographs and computer-generated images of the quilt used to cover her body.

Detectives believe the floral-patterned cover was used by the killer as he carried the 16-year-old's body into woodland in North Yorkshire.

They also released photographs of cables ties used to bind the youngster's body.

Detective Superintendent Chris Gregg of West Yorkshire Police revealed the photographs at a news conference in Leeds.

Leanne disappeared after a shopping trip
Leanne disappeared on 26 November last year as she returned home from a Christmas shopping trip to Leeds with a friend.

Her body was discovered wrapped in plastic bags and the reversible, pastel-coloured floral pattern quilt on 20 August this year.

Her hands had been bound and a scarf and cable ties used to strangle her.

Det Supt Gregg said the reversible cover was made of cotton and polyester, had plastic studs on the bottom and was believed to be at least 20 years old.

He added that the black, yellow and white cable ties used by the killer could be significant.

"We are looking at the type of profession they (the ties) are used in and the type of application they are used for," he said.

"We know they are widely available and inquiries are ongoing.

"We are appealing for information from anyone who knows the significance of the combination of colours used. Has anybody seen these cable ties in someone's possession?"

Forensic tests are still being carried out on the quilt and police have not yet managed to trace the manufacturer.

The front of the cover has a floral pattern with individual flowers in rows surrounded by a floral border.

It also has four bows in a pattern called "eternity bows".

The reverse of the cover is the same but without the floral border or bows.

Det Supt Gregg added: "Has it been on somebody's bed or in somebody's drawer? Has it been handed down?

"I want people to think carefully, have they seen this item?"

Police also displayed identical copies of plastic cable ties used to strangle and bind the youngster.
