Teenager on manslaughter charge
Court graphic
A 19-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of a pensioner who collapsed and died after disturbing burglars at his son's home.

Nicky Foster, of Hayes Crescent, Oldbury, West Midlands, appeared at Warley Magistrates Court and spoke only to confirm his personal details during the short hearing.

The manslaughter charge relates to the death of 67-year-old Salim Akhtar Shah.

Mr Shah, a retired chef who suffered from angina, died in hospital of a heart attack after disturbing burglars at his son's home in Tat Bank Road, Langley, in the early hours of 4 April.

Mr Foster is also charged with burgling Mr Shah's son's home.

Magistrates rejected a bail application and he was remanded in custody.

He is now due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 16 August.
