The Hayfield pub

Detectives are questioning three people over two separate shootings which left one man dead and four others injured in Leeds.

Both incidents happened in the Chapeltown area of the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Two men were taken to hospital and placed under armed guard after suffering gunshot wounds to their legs during a shooting outside the West Indian Centre in Chapeltown.

Detective Superintendent Howard Crowther, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "Both injuries were not life threatening and we are still trying to establish what happened.

"Details are very sketchy at this moment in time."

Police were later called to the Hayfield pub in Chapeltown, where a man was fatally wounded during a shooting incident in the car park.

He was one of four people shot outside the pub.

Critical injuries

Det Supt Crowther said: "Details are again very vague and slightly confused at this point.

"These incidents do appear to be targeted against specific people.

"There is no indication that they are random attacks."

The identity of the dead man has not yet been released by police because his family live abroad.

The hospitals in which the four injured men are receiving treatment are also not being disclosed.

One of the four men injured in the attacks is said to be in a critical condition.

Police say there is no indication the shootings were linked to racial issues within West Yorkshire over the last few weeks.
