Northamptonshire police are to set up an incident unit in a play park a week after a teenage boy suffered serious burns in a petrol bomb attack.

Tristan Taylor, 14, was hit by the flaming missile as he played with friends in the play park at Kingsthorpe, Northampton on Thursday 28 June.

Police plan to set up the mobile unit in the Bradlaugh Fields park in an attempt to jog people's memories.

Tristan's friends have told police they saw flames coming from a bush which then hit Tristan, causing his clothes to ignite.

No motive

He was rushed to Northampton General Hospital but later taken to the specialist burns unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital where he has undergone surgery.

Detective Inspector Bob Smart, who is in charge of the investigation, said he knew of no motive for the attack.

He added: "We hope the police presence at the play park will encourage people to come forward with information leading to those responsible for throwing what appears to be a petrol bomb into a children's play park."

Tristan's condition at Stoke Mandeville Hospital is described as "comfortable".
