Strongman milks another record
John Evans'
The whole world record on his head
A strongman has broken the world record for balancing milk crates on his head.

John Evans, 54, from Derbyshire, surpassed his own record set in 1996 by lifting 96 empty milk crates, weighing 23 stones.

He first had to lift the crates from a support bar and then balance them for 10 seconds without support to claim the feat.

He warmed up with 72 crates, then 84 and finally he beat the record despite blustery conditions at Speakers Corner, in London's Hyde Park.

Dairymen's Association

Mr Evans' hands swayed as an official representing The National Dairymen's Association counted out the 10 seconds necessary to break the record.

Afterwards, he celebrated with a pint of milk.

He said: "I thought I was in trouble at eight seconds. The weather conditions were really terrible here today, but I managed to hang on in there."

Mr Evans is something of a serial record breaker.

He has set 28 other world records as a strongman including the previous milk crate record of 95.

He has also balanced a Mini Cooper car on his head and once supported a ladder which had women sitting on bikes at either end.

Mr Evans attributes his record breaking feats to his thick neck - two foot or 24 inches in circumference.
