A post-mortem carried out on the body of the wholesale butchers supervisor revealed he had drowned.

A police spokeswoman said the inquest was formally opened on Thursday but adjourned to a date yet to be fixed.

Further toxicology tests are being carried out and the results of those will not be known for several weeks.

A full inquiry into Mr Lubbock's death will take place later in the year.

Police have questioned Barrymore in connection with the incident, and are now talking to neighbours and possible witnesses about the events which led up to Mr Lubbock's death.

Unconscious

It is understood Barrymore was at the Millennium nightclub in Harlow with Mr Lubbock and two other people late on Friday.

A taxi driver has told how he took Barrymore and three other people to the star's home at about 0230BST on Saturday.
