Flooding causes havoc in north
Sandbag wall to hold back water
Thousands of sandbags were laid over the weekend
Flooding has caused devastation across north Wales for the second time in a week.

Ruthin is cut off with several feet of water in the town centre, as is the centre of Mold.

Hundreds of homes are without power and some pensioners had to be rescued by lifeboat crews.

The floods also brought chaos to the roads.

The A525 between Denbigh and Ruthin is unpassable.

And flooding is causing problems on the A5 around Corwen, the A55 between Llanfairfechan and Bangor. Problems too on the A541 around Wrexham.

Last week's rain swelled rivers
The emergency services and local authorities have said the situation is worse than it was at its peak a week ago.

At least two inches of rain has fallen - and the downpour is continuing.

Dozens of homes and businesses in Flintshire, Denbighshire and Wrexham have been inundated.

In Flintshire, Mold has been badly affected.

People have been evacuated from homes on the town's Firs Estate.

The RNLI has helped to evacuate a number of elderly people from flats in Brook Street using two inflatable boats.

The Fire Service says it currently has 17 fire tenders dealing with flooding incidents - around 110 fire officers - and they are receiving many more calls as people wake up.

Minor flooding

The rest of Wales has escaped more lightly, although parts of north east Powys along the River Severn have seen more flooding overnight.

Fire officers are pumping out a number of homes in the small town of Llanfyllin and the vital A483 trunk road is closed at Garthmyl between Newtown and Welshpool.

South Wales Fire Service have dealt with minor flooding incidents in Abergavenny, Brynmawr and Neath.

A landslip brought havoc to a Monmouthshire village this morning - cutting off five houses and sending a car crashing into a garage.

Three rivers - the Monnow, the Lower Dee and the Vyrnwy remain on severe flood warning.
