Glasgow Queen Street station
The worker was attacked at Glasgow's Queen Street station
Transport police have appealed for witnesses after a ScotRail employee was stabbed at Glasgow's Queen Street station.

The worker was attacked from behind after asking two men to move from a stairway in the station's lower level.

He was treated for his injuries at the city's Royal Infirmary and has since been released.

A ScotRail spokesman condemned the incident as despicable and callous.

The rail worker walked away after speaking to the two men on Tuesday morning.

He was stabbed from behind and two men then fled from the scene towards George Square.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "We would appeal for any witnesses to this incident to come forward."

The ScotRail spokesman said: "This was a despicable, callous and brutal attack on a railway employee who was going about his business.

Physical assaults

"I want to see these people charged and prosecuted as soon as possible."

One of the men is described as aged 17 to 25, 5ft 8in tall, with short brown hair, a gaunt face and was wearing a burgundy bubble jacket.

The other man was also aged 17 to 25 and was wearing a black/grey top, blue jeans and trainers.

The attack comes at a time when the number of physical and verbal assaults on railway staff is declining.

ScotRail said that from January to May 2000 there was a total of 26 assaults.

However, for the same period this year there have been 12 assaults.
