No buyers for Kray letters
Ronnie and Reggie Kray
Ronnie and Reggie Kray were given life for murder
A set of letters written by the East End gangsters Ronnie and Reggie Kray have failed to sell at auction.

The 80 letters were expected to fetch up to 10,000 but did not attract buyers.

The correspondence from the London gangland bosses to journalist Robin McGibbon was written between 1985 and 1993.

The letters combine mundane requests for items such as cigarettes, with insights into the twin's state of mind as they served life sentences for murder.

The handwriting style is described as "a child-like scrawl" with some passages being barely legible in places.

A series of 28 letters written by Ronnie Kray in 1993 chart the gangster's mental breakdown.

Reggie Kray wanted to arrange his engagement

In one he says a book about him by his wife Kate is "diabolical" and threatens divorce unless she stops its publication.

Reggie Kray writes about his sexuality: "I'm not gay. My heart does not beat faster when I see a male - does yours?"

He also talks about getting engaged so the story can be sold to newspapers.

Reggie Kray suggested several candidates for his "engagement", including a page three girl and a soap actress.

In one letter he said: "Tell me by return of post who is better. Let's do the engagement in style and go for top money."

Photographs of the twins, including pictures of them with various celebrities, sold for up to 600 each.

A signed handbill showing the twins and their brother Charlie boxing for the first and last time together sold for 210.
