Apple chief Steve Jobs has unveiled the company's long-awaited and much-hyped tablet device, called the iPad.
The device, described as as a "third category" between smartphones and laptops, looks like a large iPhone.
The touchscreen tablet can be used to watch films, play games, and read e-books.
Users can also download specially designed apps from third parties, such as the New York Times.
The touchscreen allows users to type directly on the screen, as well as manipulate pictures with their fingers.
The launch in San Francisco puts to rest months of rumour and speculation about the device.
