The BBC's Daniel Emery tests the British forces' night vision equipment on an army training range in Surrey.

The new LUCIE goggles are lighter than their predecessors and are intended to perform better.

The Viper assault rifle's thermal imaging night vision enables troops to see more than two miles into the distance.

Both systems are being issued to soldiers fighting in Afghanistan.
