As many as three million homes in the UK have broadband speeds of less than two megabits per second (Mbps) according to research commissioned by the BBC. What is your broadband speed like? In its Digital Britain report, the government will outline plans to provide all homes in the UK with speeds of at least 2Mbps by 2012. The research revealed that so-called notspots are not limited to rural communities, but some suburban homes are also struggling to get a reasonable broadband connection. A test like the one below can give you an indication of your current connection speed. Once you've taken the test, plot your result on the map below and see how it compares to other users' results.
STEP 1: TEST YOUR CONNECTION

Please bear in mind that your speed is likely to fluctuate over the day and this test can only give an indication of your current connection speed to the BBC site which may be affected by traffic to our servers during peak times. Other broadband speed tests are available - see related links on the right of this page.
