Sir Clive Sinclair has admitted his 1980s venture into electric cars "didn't achieve the success I expected".

Speaking at their launch in 1985, he said they would be ideal for shopping, commuting and other short journeys.

But the low-slung vehicles left many users feeling vulnerable in traffic, and only a few thousand were sold.
