Games will be downloaded in "minutes"
Virgin Games and GDI are set to launch a game download system called A World of My Own.
Specialising in 3D games the download portal, claims its backers, will let gamers download games in only a few minutes.
Virgin boss Richard Branson said the service would "do for PC Games what iTunes has done for music".
There is no word yet on which game studios have signed up, on pricing or on when it will launch.
Lost Planet heads gaming charts
Xbox 360 action title Lost Planet has held onto its position at the top of the all-format charts.

The only new entry is Sega Mega Collection, a round-up of classic games for the PS2 and PSP in fifth spot.
New Super Mario Bros on DS and Cars have been in the chart for more than 30 weeks and stay in the top 10.
Football titles Pro Evolution 6 and Fifa 2007 remain in the number two and number three positions with Wario Ware: Smooth Moves at number five.
Microsoft cuts 2007 Xbox forecast
Microsoft has cut its forecast of the number of Xbox 360 consoles it will ship in the first half of 2007.

The firm says it will now ship a total of 12 million by the end of June - down from 13 to 15 million.
"We are just being cautious about the second half (of the financial year)," said financial officer James Liddell.
The company said it had unsold inventory in shops and was hoping to make a profit from its gaming division in the coming financial year.

Blizzard's expansion to World of Warcraft has stormed in at number one in the UK video gaming charts.
The Burning Crusade has become the second fastest selling PC game ever with 2.4m copies sold on the first day.
It knocks the Xbox 360 sci-fi action shooter Lost Planet: Extreme Condition into the number two slot.
WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Fifa 07 and Pro Evolution Soccer 6 maintain their top five positions, at three, four and five respectively.
