Land Rover's four millionth vehicle.
|
Land Rover celebrated the production of its four millionth vehicle on Tuesday.
The vehicles have been made at the firm's Solihull plant since 1948, and it's estimated that 80% of all Land Rovers ever made are still in use around the world.
Some of those still on the road have seen some amazing adventures, here are some of your stories and pictures.
FREDI TEALE: "It's part of the family"
Still running after 34 years and several hundred thousand miles.
|
Fredi Teale's parents bought their Land Rover in 1973 and went travelling around the Middle East. After 17 years stuck in a barn her husband decided to restore the vehicle and take it on a trip around Europe.
My parents took the Land Rover to Turkey and Iran, my husband and I decided to drive through Europe to Croatia.
We went through the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovenia to Croatia. We also drove around Italy, all with our 14 month old son in tow staring happily out of the window.
Despite being 34 years old it didn't break down once and worked as well as ever.
It was great for travelling in, we could pack everything we needed for the entire trip, including all of my son's toys.
The only problem is the top speed of 55mph, so the journey home seemed to take forever.
We still drive the Land Rover at weekends. My husband is hoping to make a trip around Africa at some point, although I'm not convinced.

ROB CARMICHAEL: "I'll buy my own one day!"
Rob and Duncan celebrating a 1,500 km trip on dirt roads.
|
Rob Carmichael and his brother Duncan took their Land Rover Defender on a 25,000km round trip from Cape Town in South Africa to Mombassa in Kenya.
The vehicle is just amazing, we had a fridge in the back and a tent on the roof and just went travelling for four months.
We started in South Africa, went through Zimbabwe, Zambia,Tanzania and Kenya before returning home.
It was an amazing trip with hardly any problems apart from one flat tyre and a squeaky fan belt, but we fixed that with some olive oil.
As for off-roading, it clawed its way over rocks that you would not have conceived could have been traversed by any vehicle. They just never get stuck.
It was a great vehicle and a great trip.

JOHN STEVENSON: "Long live the Land Rover"
Land Rover fan John Stevenson.
|
John Stevenson originally from Leicester drove his Land Rover for 143 days from England to New Zealand. He now lives in Cairns, Australia.
Back in 1971 I drove our series 2 Land Rover from the UK to Australia. We went through Europe, into the Middle East, down to India, and on to Malaysia and Singapore.
We arrived in Perth in Australia and drove across the country to Sydney before going down to New Zealand.
It was an amazing trip and not once did our Land Rover break down.
It got us through snowdrifts and across desert sand, we saw the Taj Mahal and met some amazing people, all fascinated by out trusted Land Rover.
It towed everything from a broken down Trebant in Yugoslavia to an articulated truck out of a traffic jam.
Regretfully I had to sell it a long time ago in New Zealand, but I believe she is still going strong.
