Iconic rock star David Bowie, responsible for some of the biggest-selling singles and albums of the last four decades, is 60 on 8 January.

Bowie first gained public attention when Space Oddity reached the UK top five in 1969, but it was his re-invention as Ziggy Stardust in 1972, the Starman single, and the ...Spiders From Mars album that brought him his first consolidated period of success.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s Bowie continued to record, tour, and radically alter his sound and live shows, working with Iggy Pop, John Lennon, Brian Eno, Queen, Mick Jagger, Bing Crosby, Pat Metheny and Phillip Glass.
