MEET THE PANEL
Name: Nathan Age: 17 Lives: Berkeley, California Occupation: High-school student Current voting intention: Democrat In 10 words or less: "Someone who wants the world to have a better future"
|
In 2008, I intend to vote Democrat because I feel they best represent my views.
There are changes that need to be made, such as social security reform and gun control, which will never happen with the Republicans in power.
I am really concerned about social security. Something needs to be done, so that when my generation wants to collect our pensions, there is something left for us.
Also health care is a major problem. There are millions of Americans without health care.
The environment is another major concern of mine. We need to keep looking for alternative energy sources, so we can still breathe clean air in 50 years.
Gay marriage is the modern equivalent of the civil rights struggle.
In 30 years we will look back and wonder why it took so long to allow gay marriage, in the same way we look back on segregation laws in the south.

YOUNG US VOTERS' PANEL
|
The Democrats seem to be the party best equipped to tackle these issues that are so important to young voters. Republicans seem to dwell too much on the past.
We want candidates, who are willing to put differences aside to work in a bipartisan system for our future. People like Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton will move our country forward.
I will therefore vote for Hillary if she runs in 2008.
I cannot wait to vote and have my say on the misguided domestic and foreign policies of this government.
Instead of using America's power to fight wars abroad, we should be helping the many starving children in Africa.
Young voters across the US will hopefully join me in taking action and voting for our future.
