It is fifty years since the war broke out in south Sudan and now we have war in Darfur.
Strenuous efforts need to be made to remove the effects of war and to prepare the ground for an encouraging national reconciliation.
This process should shed light on the genocide and ethnic cleansing that took place in Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, the Blue Nile and south Sudan.
Life in Darfur has become an unbearable hell since the war began.
More than two and a half million people have been displaced and now they are living in camps.

More than 400,000 refugees are now living in Chad, and more than 250,000 have been killed.
On average, more than 10,000 people are killed every month as a result of genocide; the denial of access to relief aid; the spread of disease; and the Janjaweed attacks.
Usually, a ceasefire represents a step towards permanent peace.

But in Sudan the government exploits this step to prepare itself for a fresh war.
War, in itself, is a horrible thing.
It is associated in our minds with bringing destruction; displacement; the killing of innocents; and the lack of basic services such as health care and education.
More importantly, war spares no one.
Now we are seeking the help of the international community for a just peace. I am confident that peace will prevail throughout the world.
On the international level, we need practical programmes such as writing off debts from developing countries; combating poverty and illiteracy; and solving regional conflicts, with the aim of bridging the gaps between the north and the south.
On the domestic level, we need democracy, transparency, human rights, and the rule of law as prerequisites for stability and international peace.
