Of course I welcome news of a unity government. The situation is so bad here we are looking for any improvement.

Hopefully this will be a good move.

But the issue is not should Hamas recognise Israel. The issue is that we are under occupation.

We don't have a state yet, Israel does.

They have embassies, offices, passports. We are the people who are neglected by Israel and the West.

The basis for any solution is for Israel to recognise us.

I am optimistic for the future of the government.

The situation now is just so bad: socially, educationally, economically. Israel has been destroying Palestinian society.

LIFE IN GAZA

We also have internal problems. I think the unity government is the way to a solution.

We did what we had to do, now it's for Israel to work with us. The ball is in their court.

Within the new government all Palestinian people will be represented: from the left, right and centre.

Are they going to put more sanctions on us like they did with Hamas? Or are they really looking for a new start?
