Talking Point

Would you intervene to stop crime?

If you saw a group of kids spraying graffiti on a wall would you step in to stop a crime, or would you be afraid of the consequences?

UK Home Secretary Jack Straw wants people to get involved and put an end to the "walk on by society".

He says turning a blind eye to youngsters engaged in vandalism or crime is shirking a shared duty to ensure that they become responsible members of society.

"Dealing with crime is not just the responsibility of the police, it's the responsibility of all of us," he said.

Would you be willing to turn crime buster on the streets?

Many people say that getting involved in stopping crime is too dangerous.

Headmaster Phillip Lawrence was tragically killed in 1995 when he tried to break up a fight involving one of his pupils.

However Mr Straw said he is not asking people to risk their own safety but not to ignore the peril of others.

"Obviously they must not encourage dangerous situations but in many cases it's not dangerous," he said.

We want to hear your experiences. Have you ever taken a stand against crime? What was the outcome?

Tell us what you think now.
