Dee Dee Ramone: Send your tributes
Punk pioneer Dee Dee Ramone, a founder member of band The Ramones, has been found dead at his home in Hollywood aged 50.

The death of the bassist, whose real name was Douglas Glenn Colvin, comes 11 weeks after the band was celebrated with induction into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

He was part of The Ramones' first line-up in 1974. The New York band gained early success in the UK, influencing acts such as the Sex Pistols.

Your reaction

Rest in Peace Dee Dee, your music will live forever, it made my teenage years so much fun and my first Ramones gig in 1978 at Newcastle City Hall was a life changing experience. Thank you(and Joey) for writing so many brilliant songs and for putting the fun back into Rock n Roll

This guy was responsible for some of the most exhilarating rock and roll ever Ian Kirchin, U.K.

He should be remembered for the love of life and positive energy that The Ramones represented

A sad loss, my favourite Ramone gone. Despite Dee Dee's lifestyle, he should be remembered for the love of life and positive energy that The Ramones represented.
John, UK/Finland

This guy was responsible for some of the most exhilarating rock and roll ever. The Ramones should have been as big as The Beatles and they would have been if it wasn't for the conservatism of 70s radio which refused to give them the airplay they so deserved.
Ian Kirchin, U.K.

Like all music pioneers it's the work of those who followed that will be the best memorial.
Greg Giordano, USA

Dee Dee's death is another great loss, coming so soon after Joey's. They dared to challenge the establishment and go against the grain of stadium rock that had taken over in the late 70's, and made some fantastic tunes in the process. Their legend will live on.
Dan Martin, UK

The Ramones were truly one of the most original, inspirational, exciting, and fun bands ever. Dee Dee Ramone, along with Joey and Johnny, were responsible for this truly unique band. It is such a pity that his life is cut short. Thanks for everything Dee Dee. R.I.P
Russ Hoffman, Singapore

Purely one of the greatest bands ever, Dee-Dee will be greatly missed by us all, Rest in Peace
Mark Lambert, England

Some people said the Sex Pistols were better but in truth, the Ramones were the original and the best. RIP Dee Dee.
Tony Ogger, UK

Dee Dee will be missed along with Joey, I bet they are both on the way to a heavenly Rockaway Beach. The best man ever to utter the words "One two three four" My youth was enlightened by the Ramones and still is. My 8 year old daughter is now a fan, Sad day.
Mark Dennis, UK

You changed people's lives

Dee Dee - you made the world a better place with your wit and music. Hope you keep playing punk in heaven! The Ramones were the best band and we are so gutted to lose two of you in such a short space of time. God bless you mate - thanks for all the good times. You changed people's lives - Be proud. RIP
Kerry and Jutters, Leeds, England

Dee Dee was what you ask from your music heroes. The Ramones opened my eyes to bubblegum punk, catchy tunes, great one line lyric's and magic riffs. May the Ramones never be sedated. Rest in peace Dee De

Just heard the news. What a sad day. Great player and character. My enduring memory will be of the first time I ever heard the Ramones - an instant love affair from Dee Dee's count in - wunntoothreefaw...
Matt, UK

First you rocked the world- Now it's time to rock heaven. Old Ramones never die - they become immortal. Thank you Dee Dee

We've hardly had time to stop mourning over Joey, and now Dee Dee is gone - a very sad day. The Ramones were one of those few bands that really woke me up to music. Having been a lover of 13 minute opus-type tunes from the likes of Yes and Deep Purple, the last thing I would have expected was to fall in love with a band who's album lasted as long as a single Yes song! But fall in love with them I did, and they introduced me to so much more beautiful raucous music. Hope you and Joey are jamming tonight - RIP both of you.
Waynster, Netherlands

When the Ramones were playing, nobody wanted to be sedated. Thanks for some of the best two to three minutes of my life.
Aaron Dosualdo, Australia

I was just talking about Dee Dee Ramone last night. The Ramones were one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever. Hearing about his death is sad, but the music brings back sweet memories. In the late 1970s in Queens, we all used to hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach. Goodbye Dee Dee! We will miss you.
Susan, New York City

He was both a pioneer, a great man, and a great bassist. I had the pleasure of meeting him once and he was not at all stuck up.
J.E.D'Ulisse, New York City

He will be missed but in their time The Ramones brought so much to many people

Davros, UK
Dee Dee Ramone, wherever you are, dude, keep playing the punk. You will be missed a lot not just by your family and friends, but your fans like me. Rest in peace.
Jeff Dart, England

He will be missed but in their time The Ramones brought so much to many people. Fabulous bubblegum punk tunes and sizzling live shows.
Davros, UK

He was a true punk rock legend and a great songwriter. I've been a huge Ramones fan for many years and I've had the pleasure of meeting Dee Dee on several occcasions, and each time he was really nice and friendly. We even had a jam and played a few songs together. I'll always remember those days. It showed that he cared about his fans. He will be sadly missed by millions of fans around the world.
Jake, UK

Seeing the Ramones live in early 1978 at the Birmingham Odeon was one of the best gigs I ever went to

Andy, US
Joey Ramone may have been the voice of the Ramones but Dee Dee was the heart and soul. He had the look, the attitude and the humour. If Dee Dee Ramone hadn't helped to invent punk rock then punk rock would have never invented and reinvented so many who came after him. God bless you, Douglas Glenn Colvin.
Mark Z, US

Seeing the Ramones live in early 1978 at the Birmingham Odeon was one of the best gigs I ever went to. Leaping up and down in front of the stage through the entire speed-filled set was a blast and I was thrilled when Dee Dee leaned over and gave me his monographed pick - which I still have...somewhere.
Andy, US

You taught me that it only needed three chords to produce timeless rock 'n'roll and not a degree in twiddley guitar playing. You inspired me to form the Newtown Neurotics which although didn't make my fortune took me around the world and changed my life. For that I am in your debt.
Steve Drewett, UK

Dee Dee and Joey have left the world having taught us just how to write a great three-minute rock song!
Gary Loader, US

These guys kept it real while the world was snorting coke and disco-ing into a mindless spiral of mediocrity

Bellzabubba, US
My kids listen to my old Ramones albums. When they heard "It's Alive" they said "who's that bloke saying 'one, two, fee, forr' before every track?". Well, now he's joined Joey. Sad, but the music lives on. The soundtrack to my teens.
Alan Hind, UK

I'm starting to feel my age a bit. These guys kept it real while the world was snorting coke and disco-ing into a mindless spiral of mediocrity. Vietnam, Watergate, racism, sexism, there was just so much crap around when the Ramones came together to spit at all the absurdity humans are capable of wollowing in. Gabba Gabba Hey!
