More of your tributes to the Queen Mother
Buckingham Palace has announced the death of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

She lived longer than any other King or Queen in British history.

Yet her reign as Consort was comparatively short.

She was one of the architects of the modern House of Windsor, yet she was born a commoner.

Her birth came at the very beginning of the 20th century, but each generation will have its own memories of her.

Send us your Queen Mother tributes.

She was a great and brave lady, especially when England was bombed by Germany at World War I

Robertus Tan, Indonesia
She was a great and brave lady, especially when England was bombed by Germany at World War II. She refused to evacuate to Canada and even learned to use a revolver in case the enemy tried to kidnap her. She teach us to people to love each other...
Robertus Tan, Indonesia

My deepest sympathy to the Queen and the Royal family at their very sad loss. The Queen Mother was a wonderful lady who inspired us all and was loved and adored across the Nation. Kazuyuki Marukawa, Japan

God bless the Queen, Royal family, People of Great Britain and of the Commonwealth upon the loss of the Queen Mum. I had just seen HM Queen Elizabeth II during her trip to Jamaica. She was given a warm welcome, the visit just days after the loss of her sister. The Jamaican people showed great love for their Queen. How, at this time the Queen will enjoy her Golden year as Queen, will only come from the strength of God. God Save the Queen
Alan, USA (NJ)

The Queen Mother has truly been a beacon of light in dark times and a source of strength to her family, her nation and the entire world

Brent Dicks, Quebec, Canada
The news of the passing of the Queen Mother was given to me by a 16-year-old family friend. The fact that he took note of this event and thought to share this news speaks volumes for how much of an impact her presence has had upon this world. As anyone with children well knows, 16-year-olds have many things on their minds besides the lives or deaths of royalty in far off lands. The Queen Mother has truly been a beacon of light in dark times and a source of strength to her family, her nation and the entire world as well. My thoughts and prayers are with her and with her family and the people she served so well. God Save the Queen.
Brent Dicks, Quebec, Canada

Deepest sympathy to the Royal Family upon the Queen Mother's passing. She was an inspiration to us all.

She was the human face of the royal family in England

Ellen de Vries and Philip Bosch, Netherlands
A small loss for men, a great loss for mankind. Although paraphrased, it is the best way for us to describe the loss of this wonderful lady. For us she was the human face of the royal family in England. Let's hope that with all the tragedy's the Windsors had to cope, they will finally show their human side.
Ellen de Vries and Philip Bosch, Netherlands

Fully disappointed for the death of HRH The Queen Mother, I pay my tribute to the departure of a mile stone in history.

Though I may not know much about the late Queen Mother, I must say that she touched the hearts of many. Including mine. Her smile was like an everlasting flame(it touched millions). Reading about the things she has done and achieved, it moves me greatly. She has been a symbol of love, hospitality(in the time of war) and a great leader. My deepest condolences to the royal family, and I pray that her soul rest in peace. And being a Buddhist, I pray she be reincarnated as an even better living being.

She was truly a Queen in the greatest tradition of Royalty. She will be sorely missed by all of us.
Michael Bell, England

One of the famous Queens and a mother and being the oldest royal family crown has ended her life full of joy. God permitted her life to last until that time because she has probably fulfilled her duties in God's creation.

It was with a terrible sense of shock and sadness that I received the news of the Queen Mother's death on the TV last night

Natalie Barker, UK
It was with a terrible sense of shock and sadness that I received the news of the Queen Mother's death on the TV last night. In the war years, she was a beacon in the darkness, and she continued to shine through the remainder of her extraordinary life. Though we may not have met her, she touched our hearts with her warm smile & personality, whatever troubles were going on around her. God bless you, ma'am, and may you rest in peace with your beloved husband and daughter. Gone but not forgotten.
Natalie Barker, UK

I am not British, but I would have been a royalist easily because of Queen Mother. If Princess Diana was the Queen of Hearts, the Queen Mother was the Queen of all Hearts.
Tallal Kudssi, UK

A true loss of a wonderful and admirable person. An Example to us all. If one in ten followed by her example we would have a wonderful race. May we all remember and never forget all that we have been shown.
Peter Howe, Spain (ex UK)

With great sadness for a lovely lady, whose smile touched us all. May she rest in peace.
Natalie, England

I would like to express my deepest sorrow at hearing of the death of a national treasure

William Barber, Scotland
I would like to express my deepest sorrow at hearing of the death of a national treasure. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother will forever hold a place in the nation's hearts and will be sorely missed. My sincerest sympathy goes to the Royal Family at this time of loss. However, she will live for eternity in our memories.
William Barber, Scotland

When I came to the UK in order to go to school it was not long before I could see just how much the nation loved this dear, wonderful woman. In short order I could see why. She had a wonderful quality about her that simply radiated from her. How many people of royal blood can claim to have such a quality? She will be missed by all who had the chance to see her and feel that wonderful personality that was hers alone. May God bless the UK at this time of loss.
William Parkinson, USA

We have lost a wonderful, warm, strong, lady. As a child growing up in the 50's in a family who were royalists and very proud Brits I have always had great admiration and love for this lady. God bless her. I would like to take this opportunity to offer my condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and her family. It doesn't matter how old you are you are still a little child when you finally lose your mom. The queen will carry on because she has no choice. God be with her and comfort her. A member of my family worked for Her Majesty and a neighbour of mine was in the Scots Guards. Both of these individuals can't speak highly enough of her. I wish I could put my arms around her and take away the pain for a little while. Thank you God for allowing the Queen mother to be part of our lives and please keep your loving arms around our Queen as she continues to reign over us.
Patricia Thompson, Canada

She taught us all that life is special regardless of what pressures we face in our lives

Darien Brooks, USA
The Queen Mother taught us all, both in Britain and the world, how to carry ourselves with grace, dignity and seeing light through many life-changing events for both better and worse. She taught us all that life is special regardless of what pressures we face in our lives. To you, the Queen Mother, I say thank you.
Darien Brooks, USA

The TV pictures show hundreds of bunches of flowers at the gates of Windsor etc. Exactly the same happened when Diana died. But given that both Diana and Elizabeth did a great deal of charity work, would it not be more appropriate for people to donate £5 or £10 to one of their chosen charities, instead of spending this money on flowers? The flowers will die in a few days, but the money could be put to genuine use by the charities. I'm sure both Diana and Elizabeth would have wanted this.
Jim Willsher, Scotland

I was born in England but now live in Australia. I absolutely adored the Queen Mum and I am devastated to hear of her passing. Her gorgeous smile that was so full of genuine warmth and radiance will be so very much missed by us all. What a wonderful, beautiful woman. My condolences to all of the Royal Family at this sad time. There will be a brighter star in the sky as she looks down on us all. Rest in Peace, dear lady.
Carol Dixon, Australia

We will miss Queen Mother. But I would like to say that every beautiful thing has an end. She was the best in the Royal family. Her nice smile lasts forever. It is a huge grief for the Queen and the Royal family. I hope they take it easily and smoothly.
Jalal Mohsin Salim Lardhi, Yemen

As children living in England during the Second World War we remember the Queen Mother as someone who has always been there for us, as an example of everything that is good about being British. Robert and Barbara Willimott, Ankara, Turkey

The Queen Mother is no longer with us, but long live our present Queen Elizabeth II.
Rr & Mrs Allan, ENGLAND

I am deeply shocked

Shyam, India
I am deeply shocked. I just don't know why but I am feeling like I have lost my own family member. Queen Mother has got such a charm on her face that she could make anyone, even the hardhearted one, feel like that. For me, her looks are as saintly as mother Teresa's were. I am deeply disturbed. May her soul rest in peace.

Sonia Chovanec, Australia
I would like to express my deepest and sincerest condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Britain and the Commonwealth on the death of the Queen Mum. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother was a shining example to all. Her dignity, grace and commitment to duty were an inspiration. Her faith and immeasurable love for family and country were invaluable contributions not only to the Monarchy, but the entire world. She was a true and deserved Empress of the Empire. Eric Birrell, South Africa

The Queen mother has done no one any harm in her life time, she has carried out her duties while giving no one any grounds to complain, but she has also lived a very long and privileged life. We should respectfully thank her for her contributions but not get too carried away by the fact that she has now done what we all must do at some time and passed away peacefully.
Phil, UK

The world, not just the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, is mourning the passing of a great statesperson

Phillip & Karen Minnis & Family, New South Wales, Australia
Our family was saddened to hear of the death of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Due to her great age, we knew that her death would be in the near future but, as is always the case, when it happens it is both a shock and very sad. The world, not just the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, is mourning the passing of a great statesperson. During a period of residing in England, we had the opportunity to see her in person at Royal Ascot. For this will we always be thankful. The Queen Mother exuded warmth, elegance, style, kindness, compassion, dignity, sincerity, humility, resilience and strength of character. Millions will miss her warm slightly slanted smile. Our family expresses its deepest sympathy to Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this very sad and difficult time. The world will be a lesser place without this 'grand lady'. God save the Queen!
Phillip & Karen Minnis & Family, New South Wales, Australia

I take this opportunity to submit my tributes and express my condolences for the loss of the beloved Queen Mother. Being a teacher of English, I have often tried to explain to my students what a symbol she was to the British people, especially, during the bleak years of World War II and the bombardments of London. May she rest in peace.
Vranas, Apostolos Greece

I am not a royalist in particular I feel so sad for the Queen that two deaths have occurred during her celebrations

Jackie Gear, UK
When I was a little girl the Queen Mother came to visit my father's hat factory. We were privileged to be inside the factory gardens when she came. She noticed I had fallen and came up to me, took off her gloves and rubbed my knee with her handkerchief. I reminded her of this before her 100 birthday and she remembered even correcting the date. I wished her a pre-birthday wish and she rewarded me with invitations to Buckingham palace for my elderly mother, my husband and myself. She was a lovely, lovely lady and although I am not a royalist in particular I feel so sad for the Queen that two deaths have occurred during her celebrations.
Jackie Gear, UK

She was a remarkable woman, thrust into the spotlight at the worst part of the 20th century. Despite it all, she came through. A favourite to the US people, too. May she rest in peace with her beloved Bertie.
Kathy D., USA

The end of an era. Our country will never be the same again.
Mike Ferris, England

The Queen mother was a strong and yet caring and kind lady, whom I had the greatest respect for. I am saddened by her passing, but as many have already said we wanted her to live forever but something as gracious and lovely as her had to pass to a better place, so may she rest in peace and may her family be blessed and continue her example.
Avril B, Ireland

Her offspring should follow her footsteps

Bill Yuen, Australia
A great lady. A great life. Her offspring should follow her footsteps and the Monarchy may last longer.

You led by example. Rest in peace.
Arvind Maharaj (ex-RAF), United Kingdom

HM the Queen Mother to me always personified the more family-oriented face of the monarchy

Alan D., Rhode Island, USA
HM the Queen Mother to me always personified the more family-oriented face of the monarchy. She represented the fact that no matter what station or what rank we may hold, human kindness is universal. I used to enjoy the details about her hobbies and pastimes because these things made people relate to her and made her relate to "her people". She truly was the "grandmother of a nation" and she will be sorely missed. May God rest her soul and my heartfelt condolences to HM the Queen, and the Royal Family at this sad time.
Alan D., Rhode Island, USA

Dear Queen Mum, we will miss you very much. During the war I was in London and know what a great support you were to all the people. God Bless and goodbye.

You will always occupy a special place in my heart

Olutoyin, Nigeria
You will always occupy a special place in my heart. You were a dedicated lover of virtue, honesty and integrity. Little wonder God gave you a long time to bring happiness to several people across your path.
Olutoyin, Nigeria

I was never fond of monarchy, but for some reason I always liked the figure of the Queen Mother. Maybe because she was so cute and looked so sweet. She seemed a gracious and tender person in her pink outfit. I admire her for looking so sweet and decent in such an old age, a beautiful old person. I believe that in our memories she will stay as the picture of our own grand-mothers or the one we would like to have; and that we all wish to reach at such an old age looking happy and lovely. God rest her soul.
Natasha Mellou, Greece

The Queen Mother was a gracious lady who was respected by all. Despite having lived such a full and lengthy life, she will be missed. I will remember her often, as she and my mother, who passed on in 1992, were born in the same year. Eternal memory!
William Kushniryk, Canada

As am American, I was impressed by the Queen Mum's love and loyalty for her country and its people. My deepest sympathy goes to the Royal Family. I hope and pray that they will carry on the queen mum's tradition of grace and decorum.
Karen Thorne, United States

It is a very sad day in our history to have lost our beloved Queen Mother

Joy Lakeman, Canada
It is a very sad day in our history to have lost our beloved Queen Mother. She will always be remembered as the most gentle lady that we as a people have ever known. May she rest in peace and our heartfelt sympathy foes out to her family in their time of sorrow.
Joy Lakeman, Canada

I was deeply moved to learn about the peaceful death of Queen Mother. Her life was full of examples- Queen mother you've gone, but you will never be forgotten. To this end, I say 'thank God for a life well spent' Sleep on Queen Mother, sleep and take your rest. Goodnight, goodnight, goodnight.

Feels like we've all lost something, as the Queen Mother was a large part of our country's living history

Mary Mann, Scotland
Great Sadness felt for HM the Queen and the Royal Family, who have lost a much loved Mother and Grandmother. Feels like we've all lost something, as the Queen Mother was a large part of our country's living history. She showed pride, dignity and genuine pleasure in her role and in her family and lent continuity to all things British and not least Scottish. A wonderful life and a sad loss.
Mary Mann, Scotland

I am an 18-year-old Indian girl. I really didn't know who the Queen Mother really was, but I can say that she had touched my heart with all the things she has done. With her being 101 years old she has seen three centuries and been through many bad and good things, with the biggest smile ever. The Queen Mother was a remarkable woman, with dignity and honesty. The Queen Mother will be deeply missed!
Gurinder Samrai, England

You have touched all young people's hearts, and may a great woman rest in peace. All our thoughts are with you.
Kelly Massey, England

I feel as if we have lost our last great symbol of British stoicism and strength; her Scottish steel wrapped in graciousness was inimitable. Truly a great lady has passed on.
Marion Robson, United Kingdom

The first piece of news I read on Easter Sunday was the death of the Queen Mother. Though somewhat expected, it still brought a tremendous sadness at the passing of this great lady. As a citizen of the Commonwealth, I am deeply grateful for all that England was for us. It has been suggested that her death brings to an end an era and doubts prevail as to what lies ahead. I wish to say that the citizens of the UK must cherish all that is truly great and continue the legacy left by the Queen Mum. Rather than thinking of her death as an end of an era, we must rather see to it that the present and future generations build upon this most solid foundation.
John E. William, Malaysia

I feel as though the Queen Mother was a grandmother to us all. She set a marvellous example of duty to family, friends and neighbours. What a wonderful role model and legacy she has left in the annals of the 20th century. May I wave and smile back at the Queen Mother as God embraces her in Heaven.

What a wonderful lady the Queen Mum was! We have travelled in Asia for the past 20 years and everyone knew who the Queen Mum was. It will be very strange not to see her on the balcony, in parades, by the side of her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was a woman with great charisma, and will be greatly missed. May God Rest your soul, you deserve it.

I've spent the past day or two trying to think of something to say. So many people have said so many wonderful things. I guess all I really wanted to say was this - Thank You. May you rest in peace. Dale

I saw the Queen Mother just last year as she was being driven down the Strand. It was a lovely late-summer afternoon and, as her car approached, a buzz of excitement went up from the few pedestrians around. I didn't realise who it was until the car slowed down to turn the corner I was standing on and she was suddenly in front of me. Seated in the back with a lady-in-waiting she leaned forward to look at everyone with a broad and keen smile on her face. I raised my hand to her and, looking at me like she recognised an old friend, she raised hers back. It was a lovely gesture and a small but significant memory for me. She was a lovely example for us all and I'll miss her

I was shocked when I read yesterday on the 9th page of our newspaper that the Queen Mum had died. I'm 17, and honestly I thought she was immortal, because she was always there and always helping someone and it never occurred to me that she was old and might actually die. My sister and I were devastated. Even though we're Americans, the Queen Mum always seemed to us like someone who would be a grandmother to us if we needed it. We loved her and will miss her deeply.

Truly the end of an era. I offer my sincere condolences to the Royal family and the people of the UK. May she rest in peace.
