She lived longer than any other King or Queen in British history.
Yet her reign as Consort was comparatively short.
She was one of the architects of the modern House of Windsor, yet she was born a commoner.
Her birth came at the very beginning of the 20th century, but each generation will have its own memories of her.
Send us your Queen Mother tributes.
The Queen Mom was the glue that held the monarchy together: In Canada we will miss her, and pray God will give our queen the strength & wisdom to overcome her losses in the past short while and celebrate her jubilee year with the support of her family.
God save the Queen!
The Queen Mother was a passionate, astute and thoughtful monarch who managed to bridge the gap between a monarch and ordinary citizens of the commonwealth. She will be missed by all and remembered forever.
Courage, grace, and dignity are her legacy, and what a legacy that is. My heartfelt sympathy to the family of the Queen Mother, particularly HM Elizabeth at the passing of her mother and friend.
Just one word : a Lady .
JB, New Zealand
She was an inspiration for all. She will be missed. I work for the elderly people and whenever she was in the news they remarked on how much of a Lady she is...was...and always will be.
She lived life to the fullest.
May God bless the soul of the queen's mother. My deepest sympathy and condolences to the Royal Family of England. Afghans feel grateful to British great nation and its Royal Family for their dedication to peace in war-torn Afghanistan!
We have lost a great lady. She will be sadly missed all over the world. Our deepest condolences are with the Royal Family. The Queen Mother died in the same manner in which she lived her life, with great dignity.

The Estonians will remember the Queen Mother and our thoughts are with her.
Myself and my sons Michael and Andrew are very saddened with the news of Queen Mum passing away. Long live the Monarchy
I've lost my mother last year. I know how difficult this is. I think of you!
Although I never had the chance to see the Queen Mother, God bless her soul, on my numerous trips to Great Britain, I feel like I have lost a grandmother. My deepest sympathy to the whole Royal Family.
It's my strong conviction that had Her Majesty been able to live forever, and our sovereign for that matter, this country would never have contemplated becoming a republic. A remarkable woman, whom we all loved. God rest her.
A Grand lady, may she rest in peace. The country will miss her. Condolences to all her Family
Higgs, Anne (nee) Clements, Canada
A grand and gracious lady who will be sadly missed not only by her countrymen but by people whose hearts she has touched from all over the world. Our condolences to her family.
The Nation, Commonwealth, indeed the whole world have lost their favourite grandmother. My heart and soul goes out to Her Majesty The Queen and to all members of the Royal Family upon their great loss of a gracious lady, the Queen Mum.
Her strength and devotion to duty not only during the war years but in peacetime as well do her and her family great credit. Never again will we see such a fabulous lady as this.
Although she will not see the Jubilee year in person she will be in the hearts of us all.
May her memory always live on in our hearts forever.
I'd just like to say that the Queen Mother was a truly remarkable lady-full of energy. She never let anybody stop her from doing what she wanted. A great tragedy.
Richard Hawley, UK
Another great person has left this world. Queen Mum, we will miss you and remember everything you did for this world.
Rest in peace.
Simply a great woman, who united the country as never seen before. Fabulous!
If politicians only had a fraction of her sense of duty to the British public, this Island would be a bright place. It is all the darker in her passing. God bless you your HRH Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother.
May she rest in peace and we all will miss her as she was a well-respected member of the troubled household.
Thank you for being you. You will be sadly missed. At last you can be reunited with your king.

Thank you for your true love for everyone, and giving us all courage and inspiration. You will live forever in our hearts. We, and the world, will miss you, Queen Mum.
I was so touched by the death of the Queen Mother, a grandmother I have always respected Britain for. Having accomplished my studies in the UK, I have always lived in the UK to admire the Queen's mother. In her was courage and bravery that many have learned from. The British Empire will miss a wonderful monarchy in its great history. I share all the Britons' mourning. May her soul rest in peace.
Cynthia Morgan, Wales
She was the backbone of the British Monarchy and much loved. She was a true lady. Her smile and caring presence will be missed.
Queen Mother was the grace and serenity of the Royal Family with more style, courage and humanity than all others. She will be greatly missed as a role model to us all on dealing with life. She will be greatly missed and my sympathies are with her family at this difficult time.
A new era dawns on the loss of a most loyal mother. In the whole of history there has been no other. She stood alone stoic and true to her nation. A resolve of true spirit and love in Britain's recreation.
Our hearts are forever grateful to someone who was so graceful.
I feel as if I have lost my granny.
Sebastiano Benevelli, Milan, Italy

I am really in grief to hear that the Queen Mum passed away while in her sleep. This is a very sad moment not only for the royal family and the British people but also for the whole world. We will all miss you and life wouldn't be the same again!
A remarkable and inspirational lady.
So much sorrow in the world, but now, a new, beautiful and kind spirit resides in heaven. May she be blessed for eternity.
A true ambassador and a queen. A friend to a nation. Most of all a lady who will be sadly missed with the fondest of memories.
A splendid lady whose life has spanned different faces of human history and a mother of the nation whose countenance gave hope to many. My thoughts are with her family.
We will miss her sweet and kind smile. May she rest in peace.
Anton Poort, The Netherlands
The Queen mother was like a Grandmother to the whole country. We all related to her in some way from the elderly that knew her during the war to the children who knew her as the old lady that was always smiling and happy. To me she was more than just a Royal - she was my great Granny. When my Granny died she look so much like the Queen mother. She will be missed by all.
What a loss for the world. A very sad day for all. She will always live in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Queen Mum... the world's grandmother. God save and bless the Queen.
I was in great shock and surprise when I saw the BBC tribute to the Queen Mum which meant that she had passed away. The nation has lost its backbone, its guide through the times and the most beloved grandmother on earth. May she rest in peace and be sacred in heaven.
Dave Ryder, Australia
Queen Mother represented to the world great hope and courage and it is such a sad loss to hear of her passing. She gave so much joy to the world that through this time of great sadness her spirit will surely live on in the hearts of her admirers. She will live on eternally in our hearts.
Though I mean no disrespect to the Windsor family who obviously will be saddened I feel it is a shame that we still live in a country that holds up a discredited monarchy as an example to the rest of us. While the BBC reports nothing but the death of the queen mother many die in Taiwan and Israel and yet we hear little of their fate.
An inspiration to all of us in war and peace. May she rest in peace.
Our thoughts go out to the family; she was an inspiration. Thanks for sharing her with us.
Our thoughts are with the Royal family. We wish you all the strength you will need in these days.
I mourn the loss with Britain. May Queen Mother's soul
rest in peace.
Ian Hume, Scotland
It has all been said very aptly about a truly incredible life. May the Queen Mother's inspirational life of gracious service continue to be an example to all generations. Her influence is so strong I am sure there will be others like her. After all her likes are needed in what is a more materialistic and polarised world of haves and have-nots.
May she rest in peace.
God Bless Her. She was a Mum to us all. She will always be remembered.
Janna Hackmann, Germany
Her Royal Majesty Queen Mother was a great light for us and was indeed a lovely woman.
One of life's great teachers has passed away.
The Queen Mother was the best of the best. She was full of grace and compassion.
She was beloved not only in Britain, but also by those of us who admire and respect a strong yet kind woman. Her Life was an example for young and old around the world to emulate.
May the family of the Queen Mother find strength from our prayers.
