Talking Point Should Sir Paul Condon resign?
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Condon has made a face-to-face apology to the parents of Stephen Lawrence.
He admitted "failures" by his officers to investigate Stephen's murder properly. But he denied there was institutional racism in the force.
Eighteen-year-old Stephen was stabbed to death by a gang of white youths in 1993. Five teenagers were arrested over the killing but none was convicted.
Protesters have called on Sir Paul to resign over what is now recognised to be a deeply flawed inquiry.
So should Sir Paul Condon step down? Aren't apologies and promise of reform enough?
Stephen's parents hold Sir Paul personally responsible for the flawed investigation.
They say that if he cannot admit his team is racist, there is no other option but for him to go.
Others say that as long as he remains commissioner, public confidence in the police will never be restored.
But the inquiry chairman has said "hauling one person over the coals" is not the answer.
And others argue Sir Paul's resignation will solve nothing. They say he is sincere about wanting reform and should stay to see it through.
