Your reaction

My condolences to the family of Princess Margaret especially to Queen Mother for her incomparable love for her daughter and despite her condition being 101 years old, also to Queen Elizabeth II and to her children. She had love, beauty, passion and integrity. She was only human and subject to imperfection. She was the representation of being bold and audacious. May she rest in peace and thank you for sharing your life with us.
Rosie Ricafort, Philippines

I am very sad at the passing of Princess Margaret, my heart goes out to Queen Elizabeth who lost her sister and the Queen Mother who lost her daughter I have always been very fond of the Royal Family. Princess Margaret will be sadly missed.
Helen Malyszka, U.S.A. (British Citizen)Scotland

Please convey deepest sympathy to Her Majesty The Queen, and to all the family on the death of H.R.H. Princess Margaret. Australians everywhere love and admire our Royal Family. To a beautiful Princess: Ave atque Vale.

She was an extraordinary person full of life and charm and regal beauty

Victoria Mary Bahri, Antigua
Deeply regret the sad passing of our beloved Princess Margaret Rose. We shall fondly remember her several visits to our island, especially in 1981 when we attained independence. She was an extraordinary person full of life and charm and regal beauty. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Victoria Mary Bahri, Antigua

Princess Margaret, may she rest in peace finally away from the prying eyes of the world.
Joan Swarms, USA

Her Royal Highness was a charming and a dearly loved figure during her previous visits to Hong Kong and Canada, both of which I am a citizen and Her Majesty's loyal subject. We will remember her proactive role in charities in Hong Kong by our hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital in Kowloon.
Eric K.H. Lee, Hong Kong

My deepest sympathy to her children, the Queen Mother, the Queen and Prince Charles on the loss of such a talented and intelligent 'free spirit'. I only ever saw her once, here in South Africa in 1947, when as a 6 year old recently arrived immigrant I proudly stood with my classmates, lining the road to watch 'MY' Royal Family including the two beautiful Princesses drive past. That memory stays with me still!
Di Taylor, South Africa

Princess Margaret influenced my life. When I was a young girl, in the 1950's, I remember her as very beautiful and glamorous. But most of all, I will remember her putting duty above all else. My deepest sympathy to her children, the Queen Mother and Her Majesty the Queen.
Carol A. Tooker, USA

She was a princess to the full

Sue Cowie, Hong Kong
I was lucky enough to have met and escorted the Princess during my years working at Heathrow Airport. She always had time to appreciate the work that went behind the job in hand. She was a princess to the full and will always have a place in the hearts of many. Sweet dreams.
Sue Cowie, Hong Kong

My deepest sympathy and condolences to the Royal Family. The Queen's mother showed a remarkable courage and resilience in true British manner.
Mike Mehdi, UK

Condolences to her family and children for their loss. The beauty of her spirit was not dimmed by personal sacrifice, time or loss. I wish eternal peace for her and comfort for those she has left behind.
Monica Reisig, USA

My deepest sympathy and condolence to the families of Princess Margaret. Your loss is the world's loss. Remembered in thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace Princess.

A beautiful, refreshing, lovely person

Bridget Hanna, USA
When I heard about Princess Margaret's passing, I was profoundly struck with sadness and empathy. So much joy and tragedy happening in the same week. I wish to extend my sympathies to the Royal Family as I pray they are comforted by the Lord during this very difficult hour. She was a beautiful, refreshing, lovely person.
Bridget Hanna, USA

Princess Margaret was a beautiful woman. My condolences to the Royal Family. I remember when she married Lord Snowdon, what a day that was. I kept the commemorative book for many years, until I moved to the States in l977. May you now find peace and love in your new home in the sky, Princess Margaret.
Marjorie Marks, USA

A courageous lady who put duty before personal happiness

As a young nurse from South Africa my friends and I had the thrill of witnessing the marriage of Princess Margaret from a spot along the mall. My sincere condolences go to Princess Margaret's children, the Queen and the Queen Mother. She was indeed a courageous lady who put duty before personal happiness. We will miss her.
Gill Osmond, Canada

A star has gone to see and touch the face of God. Give comfort to those she leaves behind. She was a lovely lady.
Austine Anadu, Nigeria

Margaret is a good example of royal equanimity that many people have come to expect. May she rest in peace.
Dadi Koosi, UK

Princess Margaret - She was a Royal who understood what her duty was to be a member of the Royal family. She made the very tough decision all those years ago to give up on her chance of happiness to be a member of the Royal family. Her life may of been completely different had she went with her heart instead of her head! May she rest in may forever more. My thoughts and prayers are for her children, David and Sarah, grandchildren, her mother and sister. It will be a sad and great loss to all who loved her but they should remember that she will be watching over them in everything that they do. God bless.
Laura , Scotland

Princess Margaret Rose was the same age as I. As was one of my sisters with the Queen. Our family have always been very fond of the Royal Family. I recently lost all of my sisters. So I feel sympathy for the Queen's loss of her only beloved sister.
Pam, Canada

She was everything a Princess should be

Helen Cowie, England
I was very sad to learn of the death of Princess Margaret. She was everything a Princess should be, beautiful, funny, talented and clever. She will be missed not only by her family but by those of us who remember her as she was in the 60s and 70s. May she rest in peace.
Helen Cowie, England

Princess Margaret was responsible for closing the gap between the common people and Royalty. She was a real person who acted out her beliefs. What more could you ask for.
Barry Fagan, Namibia

I continue to be saddened by death of Princess Margaret and have kept her sister, mother and especially her children who have lost their beloved mother in my prayers.
Mary Lane, United States

Thanks Ma'am. I have been thinking about you and your family throughout the week. Your life has been very important to many of us, performing the position of patron for many wonderful organisations including the Guides. You were one of us in many ways showing that you are just as human as us with the difficulties in life that most of us experience.
Mark Dowe, Scotland

I will remember Princess Margaret with great fondness

Michael Anderson, Switzerland
What a great sadness to lose such a vibrant and free spirited member of our beloved Royal Family. I will remember Princess Margaret with great fondness.
Michael Anderson, Switzerland

I was saddened at the news of Princess Margaret's death. When I was a little girl, my mother took me to London to see her on her wedding day. The policemen let all the little children through to the front and we had a super view of all the royal carriages. Princess Margaret looked really lovely. Afterwards we went to the Abbey to see her bouquet, which had been laid on the altar steps. It was very exciting for a little girl! My thoughts are with the Queen Mother today.
Jill Henshall, England

My deepest feelings and my condolences to the Royal Family and the British Nation on the loss of the late Princess Margaret. May she rest in peace.
Captain (MED) G.A. Bursztyn-Milber, M.D., Argentine

A lively princess who lived life to the fullest. A pace setter and a loving mother. May she rest peacefully in the bosom of our Lord.
Rita Agyako-Wiredu, Ghana

As a contemporary in England during our youth, Princess Margaret was a role model for me. Her signature elegant cigarette holder was something I copied in an attempt to be sophisticated but I did not become addicted, thankfully. I admired HRH throughout her turbulent life and hope she has now found peace and the love for which she searched.
Yvonne Garry, Canada

Deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and all of the Royal family.
Judith Scott, Australia

We should remember the long and devoted service she gave to her Sovereign and her country

Jane, England
On the day of Princess Margaret's funeral it is right that we should remember the long and devoted service she gave to her Sovereign and her country, often placing duty before personal happiness. But to appreciate her greatest achievement, one should look to Viscount Linley and Lady Sarah Chatto. Much has been said about Her Royal Highness' unhappiness, yet she and Lord Snowdon did a remarkable job raising their children, both of whom are a credit to their parents and deserve all our prayers and sympathy at this time.
Jane, England

Prayers for the Royal Family at the time of their grief. May they find peace and solace at the this sad time and may God give them strength
Mrs and Mr. G. Fotheringham, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

When I heard of the death of Princess Margaret, I felt sadness. May I extend my sympathy to the whole Royal Family and especially to the Queen Mother and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. I have spent many lovely summers in the UK and feel very close to the British. May God bless the Royal Family and receive Princess Margaret into paradise.
Janet M. Works, USA

A wonderful example of a modern royal. My sympathies to The Queen and to the Queen Mother. May God bless you and strengthen you at this time. God Save the Queen.
Matthew Woor, England

How very sad that in this, the year of the Queen's Golden Jubilee, that she should lose her sister, ironically, within the same week, albeit 50 years after losing her father. Our deepest sympathies go out to the Royal Family, who must be grieving deeply over the loss of this most vivacious and beautiful human being. Margaret's spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who knew her and those who admired her from afar.
Kirstin Decker, USA

My sincere condolences to the Royal British family. I am 77 years old and have followed the two sisters all of my life and the survivors continue to be in my prayers.
Lydia Reams, USA

I loved this lady's spirit

Thelma Langejans, Canada
Good bye English Rose - just as true a statement for HRH Princess Margaret as for Princess Diana. I loved this lady's spirit. My sincere condolences to the Queen Mother and Queen Elizabeth II.
Thelma Langejans, Canada

We tend to think of the Royal Family as very different. But at this moment they are mourning profoundly just as you or I would and my heart aches for all the Windsors, particularly Her Majesty, The Queen Mother. May God give them solace.
Mark Pitts, USA

I feel sorry for the Queen's loss of her lovely sister. I last saw Princess Margaret in Hamilton, Canada in 1988 and I was very fond of her. I think she tried to balance her own life with her royal duties and like all of us, sometimes things in life don't work out and others are perfectly wonderful. May she rest in peace. I hope the Queen isn't too lonely without her.
Loretta Ray, Canada

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the Royal Family at this time of great sorrow. I never really knew the life and times of Princess Margaret but hearing Prince Charles talk about his Aunt she was obviously a special lady. She will be remembered in my prayers.
Les Bradshaw, Barnoldswick, England

I will always remember the radiant smile and wave she gave me

Mary Gibson, Scotland

I was so sad to here the death of Princess Margaret she had been through a lot. My condolences go out to the Royal family, especially the Queen Mother, to loose such a great daughter who will be sadly missed. Now rest in peace.
Tracy Parsons, Australia

Princess Margaret Rose was a delight - I remember so well during WWII as a young child being so impressed with both the princesses and delighting in Princess Margaret's "antics." May she rest in peace and joy along with her dear father.
Sister Anitra SSJD, Canada

Born and raised in England, and a confirmed Royalist, I feel a personal loss. Princess Margaret, was not a second Diana, she had a profound sense of duty, and put her country and family before herself. She never let down the side. May she rest in peace, God bless her and the Royal Family
Marion Fisher Reinemer, USA

My family and I send our condolences to the Royal Family at this sad time. Our thoughts are with the Queen Mother who must be feeling the loss of her daughter strongly. We pray that God will spread his arms around the Family during this sad loss, and bring some comfort to them all.

She was an inspiration to a generation with a great sense of love for life. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her from wartime Britain and during the 'Swinging Sixties'. My heart goes out to all her family and friends at this trying time.
Hilda, Halifax, England

A fine, lovely lady of whom her family can be justly proud. I wish I had half her fortitude.

God's peace be with you

Austin Amadasun, Nigeria
Goodbye Margaret, may your tender flower ever bloom in out hearts. We are freshly challenged by your passing to savour the gift of life and treasure the privilege of love. God's peace be with you.
Austin Amadasun, Nigeria

It's always hard to accept the loss of your nearest and the dearest ones. It's even harder for a mother to accept the loss of her children. Our beloved Queen Mother is no exception. My deepest sympathies go to all the Royals and particularly to the Queen Mother.
Mridula, Scotland

To the Royal Family: I was sorry to learn of your loss. Although words are futile to offer you consolation, I want you to know how deep my sympathy is and that I feel your sense of bereavement. I love her.
Wassana Pakpin, Thailand

The death of a Royal always comes as a shock, particularly for those of us abroad. Obviously our main thoughts are with her family, particularly her beloved Mother and Sister. Princess Margaret will always be associated in our minds with the joyous days of the sixties in London. She was a beacon in the dark days of the fifties, and almost single-handedly embodied the spirit of Britishness thereafter. It is a source of great regret to us that she didn't seem to enjoy the same happiness in her life as she gave to so many others. Rest in Peace, Ma'am. You deserve it.
With all our love
Paul Beacock and John Davies, The Hague, The Netherlands

Princess Margaret had her highs and lows, her successes and her problems just like the rest of us

Richard H, UK
Princess Margaret had her highs and lows, her successes and her problems just like the rest of us. Unlike some of the other royals, she showed us that they are just like the rest of us; Human beings. I only hope now that the Queen mother can recover or this is going to be a very unhappy Jubilee year. Rest in Peace.
Richard H, UK

How very sad for the Queen Mother to have to bury one of her children. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. God Bless.
Elizabeth, California, USA

On Jan 8/2002, my mother and brother-in-law- both passed away - May God help you - I understand your pain and little comfort, but I love you - when I go to bed tonight, I will say a prayer for my mother, my brother-in-law- and your lovely sister, Margaret. May they all be at peace
J Glen, Canada

Her Royal Highness was a great Royal who was well known and respected by us in the English-speaking Caribbean. Indeed, it was only on Friday February 8, 2002, the day preceding the death of Her Royal Highness, that students of the Princess Margaret Secondary School here in Barbados held their annual Founders Day Service and Parade as part of the celebrations to mark the school's 47th anniversary. It was Her Royal Highness who consented to give her name to this secondary school and graciously opened it on February 8, 1955. May she rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon her.
Dr Haynes B Blackman, BARBADOS, W.I.

The country is greatly saddened by this sad loss in the Queen's Jubilee year. Prince Charles tribute was extremely moving and eloquent. Princess Margaret will be missed. My thoughts are with her family at this very sad time.
Alison Matthews, England

I've been following the Royal Family life since I was a child.I admire them because after all they are human beings. Princess Margaret lived and suffered like any common person. Although she was a Princess, she suffered and enjoyed life as any of us. I¿ll never forget her sweet smile.
Anne, Argentina

Princess Margaret will be truly missed. She was an outstanding person in every way and will be remembered with a lot of warm affection. She was a glamorous figure renowned for her sparkle and great charm. She is now at peace with herself. Wish I was able to pay tribute in person or to even place flowers at the palace gates. We loved you so very much.
Myra C Davis Young, America

Her warmth and kindness belied the sometimes aloof or self-serving public image

John Hall, London, England
For Princess Margaret is now a Princess at peace. For her family, I am sure they have many fond memories of her which will live on in their hearts.
Lilias Kelly, Western Australia

As a resident of Hong Kong for over 35 years I distinctly remember Princess Margaret's visits to Hong Kong such as to inauguate the largest shopping mall that bears a plate in her honour-ocean terminal and Princess Margaret hospital. Her charitable disposition will always be remembered by Hong Kong residents.
Rajamani, Hong Kong

I am Scottish, born and bred, but the Royal Family I grew up with. I now live in the USA, but never forget my Homeland. My love and condolences go to my Queen, the Royal Family and the children of Princess Margaret, she loved life and "Did it her way". In this time of strife God bless the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
Anne Cutler, USA

Margaret was a glaourous icon of an era I recall from my childhood. An elegant lady who never seemed to find that deep happiness we all look for.
Elizabeth Littlewood, Australia

I have a happy memory of Princess Margaret from 1981 when I was chairman of governors of All Saints C of E School in South Wimbledon and we had asked her to open the new school buildings. A 5-year-old girl offered her an empty plastic wendy house tea cup and watched while she sipped once or twice. The teacher reached to take it from her but Princess Margaret said: "Oh no, I haven't finished yet." The pupil was obviously delighted. Princess Margaret's warmth and kindness on that occasion belied the sometimes aloof or self-serving public image of the time. May she rest in peace.
John Hall, London, England

A free spirit has left us and I have to wonder if life would have been better for her if she could have married Peter Townsend so long ago. I would imagine it would not have been considered as a scandal today as it was when I was young and growing up.
Rex Hopkins, US (ex-UK)

Princess Margaret was an unsung member of the Royal Family. She worked very hard for many good causes but chose to keep these out of the limelight. She will be sadly missed. May she rest with the Lord.
Ruth Woods, Australia

She was every inch a princess and yet a very concerned and lovely human being

David Logan, Australia
My heart goes out to the Queen Mother, the Queen, Princess Margaret's children and the rest of the Royal Family on the loss of our dear Princess Margaret. What a wonderfully dignified, charming and beautiful lady she was. I remember her quite clearly arriving one evening at the Royal Opera House. She was every inch a princess and yet a very concerned and lovely human being. Her devotion to duty and her sincere interest in so many people will never be forgotten. May God bless all of her family and may our princess rest in peace.
David Logan, Australia

As a British citizen is it a sad day to be away from my homeland. This is tragic loss for Queen and country
Kelly Burton - Downer, US

I saw Princess Margaret in San Francisco in 1995 to attend the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the United Nations, shortly after the death of Captain Peter Townsend. I admire her strength in making such a gracious appearance during what must have been a time of grief and sadness for her.
James Frey, US

A stunning loss for the Royal Family. They are in my thoughts and prayers. I choked when I saw Prince Charles speak so lovingly of his aunt. She was kind, and one of a kind. May she rest in peace.
Mitch Bourque, US

As a child, I grew up with stories of the beatiful and young royal princesses of England. I am truely saddened by the passing of one of my childhood heroines. Please extend my deepest condolences to her Majesty, the members of the Royal Family, and the people of Britain.
Heather Burden, Texas, USA

I'll remember her as one who extracted much joy from life in the midst of personal troubles

Chris Ambidge, Canada
My Mum's sister died a few hours before Margaret so we feel your family's loss. God save the Queen
Jill Halliwell, Australia

I see Princess Margaret's name every day - the big cancer hospital in Toronto is named after her, and I pass it on my way to work. I'll remember her as one who extracted much joy from life in the midst of personal troubles. That's something cancer patients have to do all the time, and a lesson to all of us.
Chris Ambidge, Canada

As a little girl after the war in Germany, I loved to see the beautiful Princess Margaret. How much grace, beauty and style. Rest in peace, sweet Margaret.
Annette-Regina Smith, Berlin

Organists around the world will remember the late Princess for introducing brides everywhere to the glories of the Toccatta by Widor which she used at her wedding. Since then many of us have spent thousands of hours trying to produce those glorious sounds from less talented fingers on much more primitive instruments. Each time I have done it I have remembered her wedding day.
Alison, UK

I was in The Mall at the Queen's Coronation and at the age of 11 was captivated by the Princess's beauty. A sad but full life.
Richard, UK/Bhutan

I am really saddened to hear of the death of Princess Margaret. I was fortunate to be chosen as a hostess on her flight to Tobago in 1958 when she came for the West Indian Federation, and was presented to her afterwards. She had the most beautiful blue eyes and wonderful skin I had ever seen. I remember talking to her again on a flight to Barbados, when she played with my baby daughter and she was so warm and friendly. There was great excitement when she passed by the bottom of our road in Trinidad at the start of her honeymoon and we all rushed out to greet them. God bless her and may she rest in peace.
Joan Parris-Williams, Grenada

Margaret was a real asset to England, but I was always sorry she had such sad times with her love life

Diana Bowen, USA
When I was a child my cousin and I used to play with the Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Rose paper dolls and pretend we knew the royal princesses. Our mothers were born and raised in the UK. Margaret was a real asset to England, but I was always sorry she had such sad times with her love life. Peace to her now.
Diana Bowen, USA

I disagree with Joshua, Princess Margaret was not a second Diana, she was the first. In her time she lead the social scene and brightened up many lives, she put the Royal family before her own desires and over the years supported many charities and the arts.
I feel her death is a sad loss not only for her family, but the United Kingdom as a whole.
Caron, England

I always thought Princess Margaret the more beautiful and vivacious of the two princesses and that fate treated her unkindly in not being encouraged to marry where her heart lay. Such a lovely lady deserved a fairytale and this was denied her and I feel she was never truly the same again, that she carried sadness behind her lovely eyes. Perhaps she may now have what was denied her in this life. After having done her duty to family and country, after having been such a wonderful lady, she deserves it.
M. R. Creighton, Australia

She was admired by many for her courage and commitment to humanity

Certainly sad news for my country, Sierra Leone, a former British Colony. It comes at no less a time than when Tony Blair is visiting here to provide us with some comfort. Princess Margaret was admired by many in my country for her courage and commitment to humanity. Our most sincere thoughts are with the Royal Family.

I have no idea what type of lady the Princess was only that she had to be a wonderful person born in a wonderful country that you have. My regrets and condolences go out to this fantastic family. She is certainly in a more comfortable and peaceful place than where you and I are, you can be sure of that. May God bless your beautiful country.
Robert Cannon, USA

I was shocked indeed like many others around the world to hear of HRH Princess Margaret's death. At least we know now, she is no longer in any pain. I send my deepest condolences to Her Majesty The Queen - such a sad start to her Golden Jubilee Year.

This lady will be missed, I always admired her for her work and she was one of the many women I looked up to. I send my condolences to the whole Royal Family for their loss.

A gracious and lovely woman who gave us joy and pride

Michael, UK/USA
My deepest condolences to the rest of the Royal Family on the very sad news of the death of Princess Margaret. A gracious and lovely woman who gave us joy and pride and brought British Royalty into the modern age. She was a princess amongst princesses and her loss marks a very sad day for us all.
Michael, UK/USA

To the younger generation, I imagine the passing of the Princess will not be as much of a shock. But for those who lived through the war years and particularly those who were children in that era, there will always be fond memories of young Princess Elizabeth and little Margaret Rose. Her passing reminds us that we are all getting a little older. She will be missed.
David, Ireland

I am shocked, but thankful that her family was there to say goodbye. You will not be forgotten.
Inzo, Belgium

Our condolences to all the family and friends from all ex-pats in Kazakhstan. She will be missed by many quiet admirers.
Tom Smith, Kazakhstan

We share the sorrow of the British people at the loss of one of their royalties

Chris and Maggie, Zimbabwe
Even though we cut ties between my country and Britain, our generation still regard the Royal Family as friends, who, in their quiet way, have seen us through difficult times. We share the sorrow of the British people at the loss of one of their royalties.
Chris and Maggie, Zimbabwe

A beautiful human being.
Roger Marriage, England

I always admired Princess Margaret for her impeccable style, dignified comportment, and unflagging support for her sister, the Queen. She put duty before her own happiness and will be always remembered for the service she performed for her country. I would like to extend sympathy to Her Majesty the Queen, the Queen Mother, her children, and the entire Royal Family.
Matt Agzigian, USA

Princess Margaret will for me always be remembered as a beautiful young girl during the grim years of WW2.
John Le Cheminant, USA

Britain has not only lost a great lady and passionate Princess, but HM, The Queen, has lost her best and truest friend in this - her great jubilee year. My deepest sorrow to HM The Queen, HM The Queen Mother and the children of HRH Princess Margaret. May you rest in peace.
Jevon Ivo Lexel, South Africa

She was a true and sincere human being who maintained her dignity, even in illness

Gery Cabeke, Belgium
Always in the background, she was a true and sincere human being who maintained her dignity, even in illness. I'm certain she knew she was loved by many.
Gery Cabeke, Belgium

I am very deeply saddened by the loss of HRH Princess Margaret. She was a glamorous and dutiful member of the royal family, the embodiment of what a Princess should be. She will be greatly missed, and I convey my sincere sympathy to HM The Queen and HM The Queen Mother.
James Hunter, Canada

A wonderful lady who experienced the difficult life that comes with growing up as the second in line to the throne.
Nigel Mansfield, Australia

I have always held a soft spot for her, as she seems always to have had a "rough deal" in life

Penny Wade, England
Although I have never seen Princess Margaret, I have always held a soft spot for her, as she seems always to have had a "rough deal" in life, considering her high-born position. If the Townsend affair were to happen to a younger Royal in this day and age, I think it would be handled very differently. Also she would appear to have brought up her children extremely well, from what I have heard of their courtesy and good manners over the years. May she rest in peace.
Penny Wade, England

A sad day for the human family that loved her grace and identified with her mistakes.
Fikry Salib, Cairo, Egypt

Very sorry to hear the news, always thought that she was forced into the wrong decision on Peter Townsend. I met her once and was very impressed.
Bernard Trevelyan, England

Princess Margaret was obviously a wonderful and intelligent Princess with a great love of life and its pleasures.
Mart Owen, England

What a sad day for the Royal family. Margaret was a great royal, I met her 16 years ago when she visited my school, she took time and spoke to most people, a great lady.
Helga Cee, England

You were such a brave and courageous lady. We will miss you. Deepest sympathy to the royal family
Beth Walker, New-Zealand

If she had her life to live again, I am sure she would have chosen happiness over duty

Kaye, Canada
I am deeply sorry to hear about the death of princess Margaret. She had rather a sad and disappointing life giving up as she did, the man she loved, Peter Townsend, out of duty to the monarchy. If she had her life to live again, I am sure she would have chosen happiness over duty. This is such a sad ending for a woman who loved life so much but for whom happiness was denied. My deepest sympathies go out to her mother.
Kaye, Canada

Princess Margaret May you Rest In Peace and Rise in glory I would like to say thank you for all the support that you gave to London Light House you became our Patron when things where tough and there was lots of stigma against HIV and Aids but you saw us through.
John Hirrel, England

What's all this about a "low key funeral". It is Princess Margaret's nature to love a big party! I think the very least that the Royal Family can do is to send her off as she would have liked. If it had been up to her she would have married the man she loved in the 50's and she would have been a totally different person. My guess is she would want as big a party as possible. She deserves it.
Jackie Watson, England

My thoughts are with all her family - may her soul rest finally in peace.
Angela Maroof, Bahrain

My heartfelt condolences go the entire Royal Family. Princess Margaret will be missed by many.
Thomas Cox, Singapore

I will always remember those small but firm voices coming to us from London as the bombs fell, little Princesses urging us all to be brave

Meda M. White, Texas, USA
I will always remember those small but firm voices coming to us from London as the bombs fell, little Princesses urging us all to be brave. The courage of Englishmen in general and of the Royal Family in particular made Americans proud to call England our mother country. Our hearts go out to you.
Meda M. White, Texas, USA

I would like to personally extend my sympathies to her Majesty the Queen in this time of sadness and loss. But I truly hope that this will not overshadow the great joy that is yet to come as we celebrate Her Majesty's Jubilee. God keep you all, God save the Queen.
Matthew Shields, Canada

I shall always remember Princess Margaret as a wonderful, caring person, and a gracious member of the royal family. My condolences to all her family.
Patricia Carter- LeCompte, Saudi Arabia

She was a true British patriot and hard working royal whose death only serves to remind us of the strong Royal institution we have. I am moved by her passing.
Jason Christie, Scotland

Margaret was always the prettier, younger, and rebellious than her older sister Elizabeth, however, she was always loyal and had a great sense of duty to her sister and to her royal role. I sincerely send my condolences and my hope that Her Majesty and The Royal Family will celebrate and reflect upon a life of a princess that was loved and admired.
Nathan, USA

As a Queen's Scout I was part of a Guard of Honour for the Princess many years ago at a Gang show in Golders Green. I was stationed at the bottom of a narrow staircase. Princess Margaret came down the staircase watching her footing in a ball gown. Near the bottom she looked up and saw me standing there. She smiled and pierced me to the core. At the moment I am weeping.
Martin L. Ellis, New Zealand

All thoughts and prayers are with the Queen and her family on this truly sad loss. Princess Margaret will truly be missed all over the world
Shepard Samuels, USA

Princess Margaret - one of the pioneers for modernising the Royal family - sometimes antagonistic but so forward thinking too. I'm no Royalist but I feel very saddened at her death.
Elaine Tasker, UK

She was an admired woman with spontaneity and beauty

Helen Smith, The Netherlands
Shocked to hear the news this morning that my favourite Princess Royal had past away this morning. She was an admired woman with spontaneity and beauty. My condolences to her children and family also to her close friends.
Helen Smith, The Netherlands

RIP HRH Princess Margaret. I really feel for the Queen Mother. No-one should have to endure the loss of child in their lifetime, and that is what HRH Margaret is after all even though she is 71. RIP.
William, UK

I am deeply saddened at the loss of The Princess Margaret. Her Royal Highness was held in deep affection by many thousands of Australians who like myself always welcomed her to our shores with much enthusiasm and devotion.
Why it was only a month ago that my mother found a photograph that I took of The Princess and Lord Snowden when she visited The Australian Pavilion at Expo67 in Montreal, Canada. She reflected such radiance and that radiance lived with her in a mature context right up to her passing. The Princess will be sorely missed. Our love and thoughts are with The Sovereign and all members of the Royal Family in particular her children and The Queen Mother.
Peter Reedman, Australia

HRH Princess Margaret, god bless you and rest in peace. I hope Your Highness will find your happiness in heaven and meet all the people you have sacrificed for your duty as a Princess of United Kingdom. You truly made the ultimate sacrifice, personal happiness and love.
Lord von Essen, Sweden

A beautiful, dutiful princess who was perhaps the first to bring glamour to the Royal Family

Mary Thit, Australia

Mary Thit, Australia

Our deepest sympathy to the Royal Family in their sad loss of a mother, sister and daughter. Princess Margaret will always be remembered. At Peace now, in God's keeping.
Lorenz Family, Australia

I'm sorry that Princess Margaret has died. She always struck me as an unhappy lady who made the best of the unfair hand that was dealt to her, and without her having any say in it.
Susan Turner, Australia

It is so sad to hear of the loss of a special lady who has never failed in her commitment to a life time of service to her Country. Our thoughts are with our Royal Family at this difficult and sad time.
Thomas Le Cocq, England

Pete B, UK

HRH was a treasure to all. I used to enjoy watching her arriving in Glasgow, knowing she was Royalty in the true sense of the word. She will be missed.

She was such a bright spark

Mrs Jean A Ball, England
Princess Margaret made a big sacrifice for what she saw as her royal duty and this was rapidly overlooked by the media. she was such a bright spark, deepest sympathy to the Queen and the Princesses family, such a sad co-incident with the 59th anniversary of her fathers death
Mrs Jean A Ball, England

May Princess Margaret rest in peace - and rise in glory!

She was an interesting, intelligent and beautiful woman who will be sadly missed

Jodie Wafer, UK
I am so upset to hear of the death of this wonderful woman. I am 20 and whereas most people of my age do not pay much attention to the Royal Family, especially the older members, I have always had the deepest respect for the Queen and her family and Princess Margaret has always been my favourite member of the Royal Family. She was an interesting, intelligent and beautiful woman who will be sadly missed.
Jodie Wafer, UK

She was born at a time when the monarchy was respected much more than it is today. Her great tragedy was that, as a highly intelligent woman, she had no real outlet for her undoubted abilities. The public were aware of her personal misfortunes - many will feel sad today at her passing, but others will feel that she belonged to a generation of Royalty that had little relevance to their own lives.
Elizabeth Anderson, England.

Here in Hong Kong, although we're no longer a British colony, I would still like to send my condolences to the British royal family for the sad loss of Princess Margaret. Her legacy in Hong Kong is survived by two institution/landmark that were named after her, namely the Princess Margaret Hospital and the Princess Margaret Road.
Anon, Hong Kong

What a sad loss for Her Majesty the Queen in this her Jubilee year. To lose your own flesh and blood is very hard to forget. May the Royal Family console each other and remember the wonderful times they shared throughout Princess Margaret's life. I pray that she knew she was loved.
Jan Henwood, Australia

Princess Margaret was the perfect Princess. Dutiful, loyal, charitable and above all, full of life. How sad for Her Majesty the Queen on her Jubilee year. My deepest condolences to the Royal Family.

I will always think of her as a human being, with a good heart

Terry Lee, England
I will always think of her as a human being, with a good heart, not someone who lives in the public eye and dogged by personal hurdles. England will miss her.

A formidable lady, much loved for her humility and kindness. She lived in the shadow of the Queen and had much sadness in her life - She will be missed.
