She lived longer than any other King or Queen in British history. Yet her reign as Consort was comparatively short. She was one of the architects of the modern House of Windsor, yet she was born a commoner. Her birth came at the very beginning of the 20th century, but each generation will have its own memories of her. Send us your Queen Mother tributes.
My thoughts and prayers and sadness are for The Royal Family, for her sad and peaceful departure and the awesome fact that she is with Jesus and Princess Diana.
Warren Abrahams, USA
A tragic loss for the Queen in this the jubilee year with the passing of her sister, princess Margaret and now the nation's grandmother, HRH Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. In our thoughts always.
She was so beloved a person not only in England but in the whole world. Our deep thoughts and warm compliments for her contribution to English history will gladly accompany her during her long journey.
Although I am not British, I am deeply saddened by her passing. She was a great symbol of the spirit of the British people and of the Crown, and may she rest in peace.
Michael Johnston, Norway
She was a role-model to us all. With her efforts she held up a country in difficulty more than once. One of the truly great has passed on.
We will deeply miss her grace, strength and warm smile. May God bless her.
From Maracay, Venezuela to The Royal Family my condolences. We lost a great woman.
As an old soldier and wartime fire-fighter, I feel a great loss. A large chunk of my life has disappeared with this dear Lady's death. She will long be remembered and revered.
She was a lady of courage and grace.
John Barrow, UK
May Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother live in peace and happiness in heaven. She was a most wonderful women who was always smiling. She lived to a truly remarkable age, and as she lived through the whole of the 20th century, she saw many sad times, but she also enjoyed many, many happy times in her life. It is a great pity that she had to see her daughter Princess Margaret die, only a short time ago, but she will now be re-united with her. May her soul find peace in heaven. I hope that Queen Elizabeth and other members of the Royal family can gain some peace and hope from the way the Queen Mother enjoyed life to the full.
Australia awoke this morning to the sad passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. What a sad loss of such a gracious lady who served her King and Country and Commonwealth for such a long time. She touched so many hearts around the world and will always be remembered for her leadership and qualities that made her what she was.
Our heartfelt sympathies to Her Majesty The Queen, the Royal Family and Great Britain and the Commonwealth. We have lost a gracious lady.
God has her in his keeping.
A great and powerful wave of human goodness and kind, has finally and calmly come to rest, with a host of white horses guiding her majesty's spirit onward. She will be greatly missed.
I was privileged as member of Friends of St. Paul's Cathedral
to sit very close to Her Majesty under The Great Dome of St. Paul's over the past 3 Friends Festival Services and each time sat Gulping in nervousness and I think she noticed and thought it amusing. My earliest Photo of Her Majesty is at 1981 Royal Wedding and my latest was nice ones at Isle of Dogs last summer and after attending the Service at St. Paul's with her.
Last night, ironically, I did think of her as I sent her a humorous gift once - a plastic gold crown.
Clarence House sent the Crown back but still a nice letter saying she was glad I liked my trip to Britain that year. I just returned also from being there to see the Funeral and attend the Requiem for Princess Margaret. I am booking to come over for the Queen Mother's funeral.
Stephan Fennel, editor GoBritain, Germany
The last of the greats, has just
left us, and is now with her beloved
husband, who she surely missed
in life. Sweet dreams.
The Crown Jewel of the British Royal Family has passed away. Rest in peace.
Let her courage, good nature and kindness be an example to people all over the world. As one of the younger members of society, I will never forget her loyalty to the nation. My thoughts and prayers are with the Royal family. May she rest in peace and her example live on forever.
Thousands in British Columbia join with me
in expressing deep sadness over the passing of
our Queen Mum. I served with the RAF during the war and will never forget
how inspirational she was.
Sincere condolences to the Royal Family.
.
Ian L. Macdonald, Canada
The Queen Mother represented the integrity of the royal family and was the balancing force of media and public interest in the monarchy. She has left a legacy that can be pursued by the rest of the royal family and all those who aspire to her zest for life through trial and tribulation.
May God bless her and the family at this time of sadness.
I would like to pass on the most sincere condolences to the Queen, her family and to everyone who is English or an anglophile. We have all lost an incredibly strong person, who through the worst of times, managed to hold herself and her family together. She will be missed, but her memory will live on for the age.
Bryan, Maryland, USA
A timeless treasure has been lost. The Queen Mother represented the guts and hearts of the British peoples during WWII. What a remarkable lady she was! The world will miss her.
I am deeply honoured to have met the Queen Mum last summer. She will be greatly missed by many for a long time. She was truly the nations grandmother
A rose is a beautiful flower. The Queen Mother was a sweet bloom.
We can all remember the Queen Mother as someone who loved life. She was there for all people not just in war time but in peace time has well. The passing of the Queen Mother is a loss to all and our Condolences to Her Majesty and the Royal Family
The commonwealth has lost a truly regal lady. She will be sadly missed.
My mother remembers the King and Queen's tireless work during WW2. She was an inspiration then and spent her life being an inspiration to many others. This is a sad day for us all but she is now in a better place without pain. In this, our Queen's Jubilee year, we need more than ever to pull together as a nation to show our Queen that we sympathise with her loss and appreciate her for all she does for us. God bless the Queen Mother, God Save the Queen.
I feel like I have lost my own grandmother today. I was born on 4th August in Scotland like the Queen Mother and have felt a certain "bond" with her.
She will be sadly missed by so many people around the Commonwealth (as well as around the world)
Rest in peace
Jean, USA
Deepest sympathies on the loss of a grand lady. She was an inspiration around the world.
I would like to pay tribute to great lady. As Queen and wife to George VI, and especially during the war years when Britain was fighting for its survival and to help preserve freedom for the world, and also for fifty years as Queen Mother, she gave her service unstintingly for the nation. I hope that this sad moment will give many in these cynical times occasion to consider how much we and our democracy owe to the institution of constitutional monarchy, and to the sense of duty it embodies. My deepest condolences to the royal family, and particularly to Her Majesty the Queen, who has lost a sister and a mother in the year of her Jubilee.
God Save the Queen!
What a marvellous women. Her contribution to British society is unrivalled. She will be much missed, but we are comforted in the knowledge she is now with her daughter and beloved husband. Her legacy will continue forever. May she rest in eternal peace.
John Russell, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
The Queen Mother will be sadly missed by us all, her determination to get on with her life, even through her ill health in these past few years have been a great example to us all.
Our sincere condolences go to the Queen and all the Royal Family in this difficult time.
I wish to express my feelings of sadness at the death of a great lady. The fact that my own mother is so important to me, and that she will not last forever has made the Queen Mother's passing very personal to me. My mother, Mildred Johnson lived through the war in Liverpool and has a letter from the Queen Mother thanking her for taking in evacuees during the war. It is one of her most treasured possessions. My deepest sympathies are with the Royal Family.
She was the last of the great monarchs, a mix of grace and strength of character. Her reign was short, yet she made a remarkable impact on history. No, she was history. Today a chapter in history has not been ended, but rather completed. RIP.
Dignity, grace, courage and leadership in one incredible package - a women the likes of which we may never see again. RIP Queen Elizabeth.
Charles Turner, USA
It's sad to hear that somebody who devoted her whole life to the English nation died this afternoon. She will be dearly missed by people all over the world. It's a pity she won't be there for the Golden Jubilee celebrations. I would like offer my condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II and her family.
As a Brit abroad I am in shock at the passing of the Queen Mum. May she rest in peace.
Let us honour the spirit of someone who meant so much to so many, both in Britain and abroad.
She was a remarkable person, a woman of substance who embodied forgotten values of integrity, honour, valour, compassion, values which seem to be forgotten in this era of money and personal gain. My thoughts are with H.R.M. Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the Royal Family. God bless her soul.
I am not a Royalist, but we have all lost a British institution. People of my generation have lived with her all our lives, its like losing a friend, she will be sadly missed. My thoughts are with The Queen and the whole Royal family at this sad time.
Mary Morrison, England
I am saddened that this wonderful woman is no longer with us. She was the backbone of our nation. Her quiet dignity and resilience will always be remembered and admired.
The Nation without it's Mother shouldn't feel poorer because good God decided that she has now a greater role to play up there in Heaven.
She has been the rock against which the waves of hardships the Royal family has had to face could never shake. From a French point of you she was the embodiment of what a sacred monarchy looked like. Only the Queen can now represent it.
God save the Queen.
Hal Shane Burke, Jamaica
I have been an admirer of the Queen Mother for over 65 years and extend my deepest sympathy.
She was an icon of all that is British, she was admired by everyone as a figure of strength and love in Britain. The fact that she endured the turbulent events of the entire 20th centaury proves what an outstanding woman she truly was.
Dear Sister Country,
The Queen Mum was a symbol of stability in the monarchy, and also a woman of great courage and determination. As Queen during WWII, she supported both the King and Her Country in a way that commanded respect and love from both her subjects and those of us abroad. She will be missed. It is indeed a sad day.
Linda, Lancashire, England
I would like to offer my condolences to Queen Elizabeth II and her family.
We, at the Solanki residents, thought of her as a great great person, and will miss her wonderful smile, and keeping her family united, throughout the years of good and bad
I don't believe anyone else in modern history has beheld so much change, so much hardship, nor controversy, yet retained a spirit of humility and genuine warmth. No wonder God blessed her days.
I was privileged to meet the Queen Mother on several occasions. When she held my hand I went weak the knees.
Her finest hour was during the war when she kept the troops up.
Gordon Ednie, Scotland
I count myself richer to have lived during the lifetime of such a gallant Lady.
I remember reading about her when I was a child, but the story I recall most clearly was about her sly sense of humor. The story went that one of her favorite tricks was to offer some privileged and honored guest some toffee, and as soon as their teeth were soundly stuck in the candy, say to the hapless soul, "Now tell me, dear boy, what do you think of Dickens?"
May her humor, grace, and courage live on. My condolences to all of the Commonwealth.
I read the news a minute ago here in Brasil, and I'm feeling very sad to know that. To me, she's the Mother of Great Britan, Grandma of the Beatles. In fact, I think she's my Grandma too. My thoughts and special vibes to this very special woman.
I'll remember the Queen Mother waving back to me, after I had spotted her and given her a little wave, whilst she was on a visit to the City Of London.
Like many, I have a memory of her to treasure forever.
Peter M. Franzese, New York, USA
I swore my allegiance in 1950
and still do in death.
She set an example for all, of dignity, courage and steadfastness. Through her, we could reach back to a time that has vanished. She will be greatly missed.
There will never be another like her.
Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Queen and all her family. The Queen Mum was beloved here in Canada too, a most gracious and lovely lady.
It is with great sadness that I learned of the Queen Mother's passing. She represented true values of a whole family and loyalty to her people. When she decided, against the advice of many, to remain in Britain during WWII and not go to Canada she showed her devotion to the people of Britain. A great person in a time of few great people.
End of an era... Deeply loved by so many people.
With the possible exception of Sir Winston Churchill, no one person better represented the tenacity, courage and sheer will of the English people during their darkest hour. She will be sorely missed.
Canadians have cherished their long-standing connection to the British monarchy particularly the Queen Mother. She represented a respected link with tradition and history - something which is important in our fast-paced, ever-changing lives. Goodbye Queen Mum - we loved you!
Her life was long-lived and her memories to the nation eternal. We will never forget her fight, courage and spirit. May Elizabeth rest in peace. My warmest thoughts are with her family and the nation that will remember her always and forever.
The mother to the world is resting in peace. She was a remarkable woman whose strength of character was an example to us all. Her gentle smile was a comfort. She will be sadly missed.
She will be remembered as the most remarkable figure in the British Monarchy for her grace and great service to the UK.
My thoughts are with the Royal Family over this sad news. The Queen Mother was a role model to us all over the world. God bless her.
Queen Mum was the symbol of duty, courage and pride of a whole nation. She had the tenderness that the whole world would like to find in any mother and grandmother. I wanted to express my deepest sympathy to all of the Royal Family and the nation for the loss of such an exceptional person. I feel like I lost part of my own past today.
A great loss. Queen Elisabeth the Queen Mother will always stand for Britain and the generation that brought us in Germany freedom and guaranteed our democratic post-war life and development, safeguarded our liberty. Am deeply and profoundly sorry. My sympathy is with the British People and the Commonwealth Nations.
May she rest in peace, she will be sadly missed by all.
With the Queen Mother's death, Britain should now realize that we have lost the last of a great time and era. May she rest in peace and always be remembered by the nation and the vast Commonwealth.
The Nation has lost its grandmother.
It is a great shame that such a lovely lady should have to depart this world. The Queen Mother was a gentle, noble, loving and caring individual and she will be much missed, not just by the Royal Family but also by countless millions of people around the world. I thank God for allowing her to go in peace and while asleep. My deepest sympathies go to the Royal Family and especially the Queen.
I must express my sadness of a true Royal and a great woman. It wounds a nation and we suffer the loss of the very icon and regal grace of British Monarchy. She will be sorely missed.
My own mother died at 89 two years ago, so I know how the Queen feels. My Mum adored the Queen Mother and was her greatest "fan" from the early 1920s. Mum had all the books about the Queen Mother and a commemorative plate above her bed. I like to think they have now met in Heaven. The Queen Mother was a British institution - we cannot replace her.
She has always been there - my admiration for her and King George has never wavered. They had to come to the throne when Edward abdicated, took over with good grace, and brought the country together. In World War II they stayed on in London with us while we endured the blitz. No scandal, no selfishness, the Queen Mother is the last of a very special breed. It is sad beyond words to see her go.
What a loss for the Royal Family. She will always live in our hearts!
I cannot understand why I feel so affected by the passing of a lady whom I never met, never spoke to and who didn't know I existed. Perhaps it was her grace and demeanour or her obvious values. Or more likely, perhaps it is because she was MY 'Queen Mum.'
I am so deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of the Queen Mother. She was a gracious and most wonderful human being. She will be sorely missed. My condolences to the Royal Family. God Save The Queen.
My deepest sympathies go to HM Queen Elizabeth II and to her family. A most remarkable and respected person has passed away today.
I had the great honour and pleasure of meeting HRH The Queen Mother on stage at the London Palladium after a performance of "Showboat" in 1991. She was charming, dignified and knowledgeable. What was amazing was that she attended the premiere of the same show in this country back in 1925. A very humbling experience for me, I can tell you.
We can all learn from the Queen Mother that dignity, grace and acceptance of responsibility can make a difference.
It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of the Queen Mother. She was an inspiration to all of us who lived through the dark days of WWII.She will live forever in our memories. My thoughts go out to her family, especially to the Queen and Prince Charles.
The end of an era, a great loss to the nation. Her legacy of devotion to duty to her country serves as an example to all, regardless of age. Rest in peace with your beloved Bertie.
We are lucky that God provides us with such people. They provide light in darkness. They provide hope in the most difficult of times and the amazing thing is that they have only to smile. This smile will be missed, but fondly remembered.
My family would like to say that we thought she was a wonderful
person and will be sadly missed. God save the Queen.
I was saddened to hear of the death of the Queen Mother. My prayers and sympathy go out to The Royal Family and the British public, especially Her Majesty The Queen, and Prince Charles. They had a very special and close relationship and I feel badly that Prince Charles was unable to be at Windsor when his grandmother died.
She was a brave, spirited and gracious woman. Her courageousness during WWII and her loyalty to her people was unfailing. Whether you knew her or not she seemed like everyone's sweet grandmother. She will be missed by many people, but will live in the hearts of her family and the British people forever. May Your Majesty, The Queen Mother rest in eternal peace.
As living history and as a connection to times gone by, the Queen Mother will be sorely missed. God Bless the Queen.
Our condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, and to the Royal family on the passing of a great lady, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
She was made for royalty, and having it thrust upon her, did a smashing job of being the essence and upright character of a Queen.
My deepest condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and all members of the Royal Family on this sad day. Her Majesty, The Queen Mother was a truly remarkable woman and will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
We have all lost a wonderful person. The Queen Mother will be missed by all whose life she touched by being such a special person.
A very dear soul who was a natural treasure. A great lady who was a pillar of The Royal Family. She will be missed very much. Condolences to The Royal Family and Britain.
Canada mourns a Queen whose spirit and effervescence as shown on her first tour of this country in 1939 (and many times thereafter!), helped pull us through the most trying times of WW2 and lead us bravely into the new post-war world. She will be sorely missed.
I may be 14 but I am deeply saddened by the loss of the Queen Mother, another national heroine has left this world.
A gracious woman with a marvellous personality. Heaven is a brighter place today and those of us left behind are saddened.
My sincere condolences to the Royal Family.
In memory of the Queen Mother. She was a great woman, and people will always cherish her memory.
Today is a tremendously sad day. The Queen Mother symbolised what was 'Great' about Great Britain. She will never be forgotten. My deepest sympathies to the Queen and the other members of the Royal Family.
Roslyn Sadik, Australian living in Egypt
Heaven will rarely see a woman of such charm, grace and gentility pass through its pearly gates. Every time I saw her I smiled. My deepest sympathy to the Royal Family and to all of England.
Deborah, United Kingdom
I have always greatly admired her late majesty the Queen Mother. She, as well as her majesty the queen, is an example of what makes modern monarchy an excellent form of government. However, now that she has departed, more attention will be paid to her opinions and actions that may in themselves not reflect as admirably as one would hope. But, I take such issues as an example that one need not be perfect to be a role model.
My sincere condolences to all who acknowledged her as queen.
I just learned of The Queen Mother's death. I was born in the UK and left when I was 10. I am a proud South African and have been here for 20 years now but she has always reminded me of my pride in my British birthright. God bless her soul. Love to you all.
Having had the pleasure of meeting the Queen Mum, and being there on her 100th birthday - it is an extremely sad occasion today. My sincere condolences to the family, and the rest of a country, and the world mourning the death of a very special person.
Ben Lord, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England
Today is a sad day. As a child I was always fascinated with the Royal Family, especially the Queen Mother. She had a sparkle about her. I am deeply saddened to read about the loss of such a cherished individual. I didn't know her, or have ever heard her speak a word. But I know in my heart that she was and will be remembered as one of the greatest women of the 20th century. I am upset as if I loss one of my own. But I rejoice because she is no longer in pain, and now will sit side by side with King George VI and Princess Margaret and God.
May she rest in Perfect Peace.
As an ex-pat Kiwi I am shocked to hear on the news that the Queen Mother has died. She has always exhibited such dignity and graciousness, and her service to the community was phenomenal. God bless her.
The Queen Mother was a great lady, a great Queen, and above all a shining example to all who cherish the simple values of respect for one's fellow man, courage, and dignity. Whatever her foibles, a truly remarkable human being has departed this earth. May she rest in peace.
Chris Saunders, Norway
This is a sad day for Great Britain and for the World. We have lost a cherished icon. The Queen Mother was the epitome of grace and diplomacy, during many of Great Britain's most trying times. I weep with you, dear England.
Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother seemed a grandmother to all of us in the Commonwealth. She was a gracious and noble lady. May her memory live on.
From Glamis Castle to the hearts of a nation. A century of grace, a garden forever in bloom, a standard never lowered. As Her Majesty finally rests, we thank God for her, we shall treasure her memory and remember her always in our prayers. To God's keeping Ma'am.
May the memory of the Queen Mum live for the ages to come as an inspiration as to what we all aspire to be. God save the Queen.
She was a class act and she will surely be missed. I had the good fortune to see her during her Washington DC visit about 11 years ago. She was regal, warm but not a snob - the perfect royal. God bless and rest in peace.
I was heartbroken to hear the sad news of the Queen Mother's death. May she rest in peace. She was an inspiration to us all during the war and was loved as no other monarch has been loved before or since. She will be sadly missed, God rest her soul.
A very sad day for all. Remembered by all the members of the WW2 Display Team.
We are all proud of you...may you find peace wherever you are.
I respectfully and humbly wish to convey to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and members of the Royal Family, and in particular, His Royal Highness Prince Charles, my sincere condolences on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. The Queen Mother was a very distinguished Royal who was always cherished and well beloved by us in the Commonwealth.
I had the honour and privilege of being introduced to Her Majesty The Queen Mother at the Royal Lifesaving Society Headquarters in Warwickshire. I attended this conference in my capacity as the Commandant of the Regional Police Training Centre, Seawell, Barbados, and as the delegate of Barbados, West Indies. May Her Majesty The Queen Mother rest in peace and perpetual light shine upon her.
You were a grand old lady and an inspiration to us all. Your passing is a sad loss. Rest in peace.
Witness to an entire century, she illuminated it with poise, grace and kindness. Britain is a little less Great in her passing. My condolences to all the British people.
We have witnessed a woman's leadership through the gravest times, turmoil, stability and tragedies. And now we have witnessed her departure. Surely, we'll all miss her very much. RIP Queen Mum.
I would like to offer my condolences to Queen Elizabeth II and her family.
A grace and strength lost forever, but forever remembered in our country's hearts.
I just can't believe how soon since the death of Princess Margaret that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother has died. As soon as I saw the news, my first reaction was "this can't be true".
Such a vulnerable time for the Queen, not only has she got to get over the loss of her only sister but of her mother, at 102. Also for the fact that it is her Golden Jubilee year. A unique lady who will never be replaced. A true ambassador for the UK.
I feel that a bit of our great nation died today. My own sorrow to see such a wonderful woman pass away, she will be sadly missed. May God welcome her into his kingdom for our loss is surely his gain. God Bless The Queen Mother. My deepest sympathies go to HM Queen Elizabeth II and to her family.
The Queen mother was a patriotic woman who will be dearly missed by everyone. The work of this wonderful woman was over what would be expected of a Royal, and she really did do herself and her country justice. God bless you Ma'am.
A sad event. I feel we should take time to celebrate a life that has contributed much to our nation, and to offer our commiserations to her family.
I had never met the Queen Mother but I know that she was a very very good person. Always helping people and always has a smile on her face.
Rest in peace, dear Queen Mum...the nation's grandmother.
Our hearts go out to HRH Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family on their sad loss of HRH Queen Elizabeth 1, Queen Mother. She was a great woman and a trooper to the end, 101 years old and still giving to the people who loved her.
God bless and RIP your Majesty.
A truly grand lady, who unstintingly did her duty to her country as Queen, and Queen Mother for almost 65 years, has passed. She will be fondly remembered by millions in every corner of the world - may she rest in peace.
She led an active and very energetic life. I'm sure she will be remembered as a very polite, heart-warming person. She was the country's mother. God rest her soul.
Please pass on my sincere sympathies at the loss of the Queen Mother. She will be sadly missed by one and all.
The Queen Mother's appeal almost universally transcended the divisions in public opinion regarding the monarchy. She was not only the head of her family, but a longstanding figurehead for the rest of us.
She played a vital part in the survival of the institution which she represented, and likewise was a much-valued supporter of this country's subjects during its hardest trials.
A great light has gone out of the world. Her lovely smile and gracious manner has been a constant source of reassurance for so many in this country. My thanks go out to her for a lifetime of duty so well-fulfilled and my prayers are with the Royal Family at this time.
God save the Queen.

She came from an age where dignity, grace and honesty still mattered and with her they are gone.
